In Ayurveda, this condition appears to be a combined imbalance of aggravated Vata and Pitta, along with long-standing disturbance of Agni (digestive fire) and possible accumulation of Ama (metabolic toxins) in the body. Her arthritis indicates chronic Vata aggravation affecting the joints, while the burning sensation, acidity, irritability, disturbed sleep, and anxiety suggest increased Pitta involvement. Continuous strong medicines for pain and arthritis over a long period may also weaken digestion and fluid metabolism, which can contribute to facial swelling, heaviness, gastric irritation, mental exhaustion, and low emotional strength. The emotional symptoms such as hopelessness, lack of motivation, social withdrawal, and poor sleep also indicate depletion of mental energy and Ojas in Ayurveda. At this stage, treatment should focus on: Improving digestion gently without overheating the body Reducing Ama and inflammation Calming Vata in the nervous system Supporting sleep and emotional stability Protecting liver and stomach from long-term medicine effects Helpful Ayurvedic supports commonly considered: Guduchi – for inflammation, immunity, and Pitta balance Ashwagandha – for anxiety, sleep, weakness, and Vata calming Brahmi – supports mind relaxation and sleep quality Avipattikar Churna – may help acidity and burning tendency Mild external oil massage with warm sesame or Mahanarayan oil can help stiffness and nervous tension if tolerated Diet & lifestyle: Warm, freshly cooked, light meals Avoid excessive tea, spicy food, sour food, packaged food, and late-night eating Early sleep routine Gentle walking, sunlight exposure, calming environment, and emotional support are very important

Hello, This is a complex, multi system imbalance, not just arthritis. The symptoms point to a deeper Ayurvedic pattern-you need to treat the root, not just joints Ayurvedic view -Vata + pitta aggravation -ama (toxins) accumulation from long term medication -manovaha srotas imbalance-> anxiety, low willpower -likely drug induced edema (face swelling) + weak digestion In simple terms -toxins. + weak digestion + nervous system imbalance = current condition Internal medications 1) Detox+ inflammation control -Mahayogaraj guggulu= 2 tabs twice daily after meals =arthritis + removes ama 2) Swelling (face edema) + fluid balance -Punarnavadi kashayam= 15ml + water twice daily after meals =best for chronic swelling 3) Anxiety + sleep + mental strength -Manasmitra vatakam= 1 tab at night =deep seated + reduces fear/anxiety 4) Burning sensation (pitta control) -Avipattikar churna= 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime =controls acidity, burning in chest/back 5) Gastric + digestion correction (very important) -Hingwastaka churna= 1/2 tsp before meals with warm water =removes gas + improve agni External therapies -warm oil massage with Mahanarayan taila= daily for arthritis pain + calms vata Diet -warm, light food -khichdi, soups -cow ghee small quantity daily -buttermilk with roasted cumin Avoid -cold, fried, packaged food -excess tea, coffeee -sour + spicy food (increases burning) Lifestyle key for mental recovery -daily morning sunlight exposure -gentle yoga + breathing anulom vilom -fixed sleep time before 10:30 pm Expected recovery -7-10 days= better digestion, less burning -2-3 weeks= reduces anxiety, improved sleep -4-6 weeks= swelling + energy improvement Important -do not abruptly stop current arthritis medicines -facial swelling for 1 year-> rule out kidney/liver side effects -if anxiety is severe, combine with personal consultation Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you
This is not a single problem, but a combined imbalance of body + mind, likely due to long-term medication effect, weak digestion, and increased Vata–Pitta imbalance. That is why you are seeing: * Swelling (fluid retention / drug effect) * Gastric issues and burning (Pitta aggravation) * Anxiety, low mood, poor sleep (Vata disturbance) * Low energy and lack of interest So treatment has to be calming + digestive correction + nervous system support. Keep her routine very simple and regular. Avoid spicy, sour, fried, and packaged food. Give warm, light meals. Avoid long gaps between meals. Reduce tea/coffee. At home: Warm milk at night with a pinch of nutmeg (jaiphal) for sleep Daily gentle oil massage on feet and scalp (sesame oil) Jeera + coriander boiled water once daily for digestion Encourage light walking and sunlight exposure daily, even for short duration. * Ashwagandha tablet – 1 tablet at bedtime * Brahmi vati – 1 tablet twice daily * Avipattikar tablet – 1 tablet after meals (for burning/gastric) * Punarnava mandoor – 1 tablet twice daily after food This will help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, support digestion, and reduce swelling gradually. Do not stop her current arthritis medicines suddenly. If swelling or mood symptoms are severe, a review with her physician is also important. With consistent routine and support, improvement can be seen gradually. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
