Bij hoge cholesterol, gezwollen benen en voeten, en pijnlijke spieren en gewrichten speelt een combinatie van factoren een rol volgens de Ayurvedische benadering. Vooral onevenwichtigheden in de dosha’s, zoals kapha en vata, kunnen bijdragen aan dergelijke klachten. Voor het aanpakken van hoge cholesterol is het bevorderen van een evenwichtige voeding en levensstijl essentieel. Integreer dagelijks lichte, warme maaltijden, bij voorkeur zonder overtollig vet en suiker. Voeg meer vezelrijke voedingsmiddelen toe zoals havermout en peulvruchten. Kruiden zoals gember, kurkuma en kaneel ondersteunen het metabolisme en bevorderen de spijsvertering, wat bijdraagt aan het verlagen van cholesterolgehaltes.

Voor gezwollen benen en voeten kun je het beste een zacht, opwaarts gerichte massage doen met warme sesamolie, vooral in de avond. Dit helpt om de circulatie te verbeteren en vochtophoping te verminderen. Zorg daarnaast voor voldoende beweging gedurende de dag, ook al is het maar een korte wandeling, om lymfestagnatie te voorkomen.

Pijnlijke spieren en gewrichten vragen om aandacht voor vata-balans. Ayurveda raadt warme kompressen aan, bijvoorbeeld met een mengsel van castorolie en warme melk gekookt met kurkuma. Drink regelmatig een thee gemaakt van ashwagandha en zoethout om te helpen ontstekingen te verminderen en spieren te ontspannen.

Zorg voor regelmaat in je slaapcyclus en voldoende rust, want ontregelde rust kan de klachten verergeren. Probeer stress op natuurlijke wijze te beheren met pranayama (ademhalingsoefeningen) en meditatie. Deze technieken kalmeren het zenuwstelsel en bevorderen algemene welzijn.

Neem altijd contact op met een arts bij aanhoudende of verergerende symptomen, vooral als er sprake is van ernstige zwelling. Hoewel ayurveda veel kan betekenen in het beheren van chronische condities, is een medische evaluatie cruciaal om ernstige gezondheidsrisico’s uit te sluiten.
