is matunga in south mumbai - #41463

I am really confused about something! I’ve been hearing people talk about Matunga a lot lately, but I’m not sure if it really is matunga in south mumbai or if it's considered somewhere else? My friends are always saying it's this nice area with great food and markets, but the directions they give me are all over the place. Like, one friend tells me it’s south Mumbai and another says it's close to central. I thought I had it figured out, but it seems like everyone has a different perspective! I live in another part of Mumbai, and sometimes I just want to take a quick trip but don’t want to end up wandering around. Last week I decided to go check out Matunga 'cause I heard about this amazing south Indian restaurant??? But then I wasted a bit of time trying to figure out if I should head south or stay closer to central. Also, I heard Matunga has a really vibrant community, like something I should experience. Do you guys think that is matunga in south mumbai? Or is it better labeled as central? Any tips on getting there and what to see would be super helpful! Thanks!
