I am Dr. Harsha Joy, and I mostly work with women who are struggling with stuff like hormonal issues, skin flare-ups, hair thinning, or fertility troubles that don't always have one straight answer. Over the years, I’ve realised that real healing doesn’t come from a standard protocol—it comes when you actually sit with a person, understand what their day looks like, how they eat sleep think feel. That’s where Ayurveda makes all the sense in the world to me. My clinical work revolves around women’s health—especially gynecology and infertility care. Many women who reach out to me have tried many things, felt confused or unheard. Whether it’s PCOS, irregular cycles, or just feeling "off" hormonally, I try to look at the root imbalance—agni, ama, ojas—basic Ayurvedic fundamentals that still explain modern conditions better than most charts or labels. Fertility support is something close to my heart... we don’t rush anything. It’s more like—let’s fix the ecosystem inside first. I also work with chronic skin and hair problems. Acne that just won't leave, hyperpigmentation, postpartum hair loss, oily scalp with dandruff... and again, for these too, it’s usually not a skin problem. It’s digestion, stress, sleep, circulation—internal stuff showing up outside. We work with diet tweaks, gut reset, herbs, maybe some lepas or sneha therapy—but always after tuning into what *your* body wants. Outside my clinic I write a lot. I'm part of content teams that simplify Ayurveda into understandable bits—whether it's about hormonal balance or skincare or daily routines. Writing has helped me reach people who aren’t ready to consult but want to start somewhere. And I think that matters too. I don’t believe in intense detoxes or piling on medicines. The work I do is slow, layered, sometimes messy—but that's healing. That’s what I try to offer—whether someone walks in with hair loss or years of failed fertility cycles. Every body has its own story and my job’s just to hear it right. Maybe guide it back home.

In the battle against the annual influenza epidemic, Ayurveda, the ancient system of holistic healing originating in India, offers a unique and time-tested approach to both prevention and treatment. Influenza, commonly referred to as the flu poses a significant health threat worldwide, with its highly contagious nature and potential for severe respiratory distress. Ayurveda, deeply rooted in natural remedies, dietary guidelines, and personalized healthcare, provides a comprehensive framework for bolstering the body’s immune defenses and alleviating flu symptoms. 

By understanding the flu’s impact on the body’s balance and harnessing the healing power of Ayurvedic principles and herbs, individuals can seek not only relief but also a strengthened resilience against this prevalent viral infection. This introduction delves into the potential of Ayurveda as a holistic avenue for preventing and curing the flu, highlighting its role in nurturing overall well-being and immunity.

Some Ayurvedic tips for preventing cold and flu are:

Balanced Diet:


In Ayurveda, a balanced diet is crucial for overall  health and immunity. It’s recommended to eat foods that are in season and locally sourced, as they are believed to have the right qualities to balance your doshas (Ayurvedic body types). For example, in winter, warming and nourishing foods like soups, stews, and herbal teas are preferred.

Ayurvedic medicines:

  • Ayurveda uses a wide range of l formulations to strengthen the immune system.  Tusli, ginger, turmeric, cloves, cardamom, dry ginger, pepper, and long pepper are some potent kitchen ingredients as well as medicinal herbs that could be taken as oral medications in the form prescribed by your doctor. Do not resort to too many home remedies as there may be side effects like an increase in pitta dosha or body heat. Medicated water made from dry ginger, coriander, guduchi, etc is beneficial in reducing fever and inflammation. 
  • There are many single drugs or formulations that can help in reducing inflammation in flu without causing side effects that harsh medications like antibiotics or steroids are associated with. These medications  are to be taken on prescription by an Ayurvedic doctor only.

Digestive Health:

  • According to Ayurveda, maintaining good digestion is essential for overall health. Herbal concoctions like ginger tea or a mixture of ginger, honey, and black pepper can stimulate digestion and help clear toxins from the body. Triphala, a combination of three fruits, is often used to support regular bowel movements but avoid fever. 
  • Do not eat heavy, oily, or fried foods during a fever or cold Avoid raw foods, vegetables, juices, or cold food items during a fever.

Daily Routine (Dinacharya):

Ayurveda places a strong emphasis on a daily routine that aligns with natural rhythms. Waking up early, practicing oral hygiene, and performing oil massage (abhyanga) before bathing are all recommended practices to promote overall well-being. Nasal cleansing which is considered to be a part of dinacharya with a Neti pot or saline rinse helps keep the nasal passages clear and reduces the risk of respiratory infections. It’s particularly useful in preventing sinus-related issues. These therapies should be avoided in active fever. Go for sweating by covering the whole body properly. Do not get exposed to the Air conditioner or fan.

Stress Management:

Ayurveda recognizes the connection between mental and physical health. Chronic stress can weaken the immune system, so practices like yoga, meditation, and Pranayama (breathing exercises) are encouraged to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

Seasonal Adjustment:

Ayurveda divides the year into six seasons, each characterized by specific qualities (doshas). Adapting your lifestyle and diet to the  current season can help maintain balance. For example, during the hot summer months, consuming cooling foods like cucumber and mint can be beneficial.

Adequate Sleep:

Quality sleep is considered a pillar  of good health in Ayurveda. A regular sleep schedule, going to bed before 10 p.m., and creating a relaxing bedtime routine can all contribute to better sleep. But avoid excessive sleeping during the day and no naps at all in fever as sleeping can cause blockade in the micro-channels further.

Ayurvedic Treatments:

For a more in-depth approach to boosting immunity, Ayurvedic treatments like Panchakarma can be considered. Panchakarma is a series of detoxification procedures that help remove deep-seated toxins from the body, promoting overall health and vitality. Panchakarma Chikitsa should be incorporated in patients with chronic inflammation and recurrent fevers. Body strength needs to be evaluated before doing panchakarma. 

Ayurveda is highly individualized, and what works best for one person may not work for another. Consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner can provide you with a personalized plan based on your unique constitution (Prakriti) and any imbalances (Vikriti) you may have.
