Oil pulling is best done first thing in the morning on an empty stomach before brushing and before drinking water. This timing allows the oil to interact with the mouth overnight, buildup and gives better comfort and results.

You can do oil with sesame oil for few minutes, then spit it out. Rinse the mouth with plain water, and after that do brushing and then tongue scraping. After brushing, you can drink warm water.

OIL PULLING SHOULD ALWAYS BE DONE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING ON EMPTY STOMACH BEFORE BRUSHING AND BEFORE DRINKING WATER.

TAKE 1 TO 2 TEASPOONS OF SESAME OIL SWISH IT IN YOUR MOUTH FOR 5 TO 10 MINUTES DO NOT GARGLE HARD DO NOT STRAIN YOUR JAW MOVE OIL SLOWLY BETWEEN TEETH AND AROUND GUMS

SPIT THE OIL OUT COMPLETELY NEVER SWALLOW IT

AFTER SPITTING RINSE YOUR MOUTH WITH WARM WATER THEN BRUSH YOUR TEETH

AFTER BRUSHING YOU CAN DRINK WARM WATER THEN CONTINUE WITH OTHER MORNING PRACTICES

USE ONLY GOOD QUALITY SESAME OIL AVOID DOING IT IF YOU HAVE SEVERE ACIDITY NAUSEA HEAD HEAVINESS OR DURING COLD COUGH FEVER

DO NOT DO OIL PULLING FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES LONGER IS NOT BETTER

IF YOUR DIGESTION IS WEAK YOU MAY FEEL UNEASINESS INITIALLY THIS IMPROVES IN 1 TO 2 WEEKS IF DONE CORRECTLY

Classic Ayurveda recommends oil pulling FIRST thing on empty stomach – before brushing, before drinking water. This allows oil to draw out toxins (Ama) effectively without interference.

Ideal Sequence Wake up and scrape tongue (optional) Oil pulling – 1 tbsp sesame oil , swish 10–15 min (or less if discomfort) and spit (white/milky = good) Rinse mouth with warm water + pinch salt Brush teeth Drink warm water (1–2 glasses)

Start 5–7 min only – gradually increase Use less oil (1 tsp) Warm oil slightly (easier to swish) If still uncomfortable then switch to coconut oil (cooling, lighter)

Benefits Oral health, clearer sinuses, better digestion – all improve with consistency

Ideal Ayurvedic Morning Routine (Early Morning) Wake up (Brahma Muhūrta if possible) Evacuation of bowels & bladder Oil pulling (Gandūṣa / Kavala)

First thing on empty stomach Before brushing Before drinking water Use til taila (sesame oil) or coconut oil Duration: 5–10 minutes Spit out, do not swallow Brush teeth (Dantadhāvana) Use herbal tooth powder/paste (neem, khadira, triphala, etc.) Tongue scraping (Jihvā nirlekhana) Rinse mouth with warm water Drink warm water Plain or medicated as per doṣa

❌ What not to do Do not drink water before oil pulling Do not brush before oil pulling

Ayurvedic reasoning Overnight āma & kapha toxins accumulate in the oral cavity Oil pulling on empty stomach binds toxins and removes them Drinking water or brushing first reduces its cleansing

Hello,

Oil pulling should be done FIRST, on an empty stomach, before brushing. Do NOT drink water before oil pulling. After oil pulling → rinse mouth with warm water. Then brush your teeth and clean tongue. After brushing → drink warm water.

Order (no change): 👉 Wake up → Oil pulling → Rinse → Brush → Warm water

If you feel discomfort, reduce oil pulling time to 3–5 minutes or switch from sesame oil to coconut oil.

HELLO,

According to Ayurveda, oil pulling should be done before brushing, on an empty stomach

IDEAL ORDER -Wake up -Scrape tongue -Oil pulling -Spit oil -Rinse mouth -Brush teeth -Drink warm water

WHY BEFORE BRUSHING ? During the night, Ama (toxins) accumulate in the mouth. Oil pulling draws these toxins out. If you brush first, toxins can be pushed deeper into gums and oral tissues

2) WATER BEFORE OIL PULLING- YES OR NO? -Do not drink water before oil pulling -You may rinse your mouth lightly with plain water only if your mouth feels very dry

REASON -oil pulling works best when the mouth is dry so oil can bind effectively with toxins

3) CHOICE OF OIL= SESAME OIL You are using sesame oil, which is -Best for vata disorders -Ideal for dry gums, sensitivity teeth, cracking sounds in jaw -Traditionally recommended in Ayurveda Use cold pressed, organic, unrefined sesame oil -Avoid refined or heated oils

4) QUANTITY AND DURATION (common mistake causes discomfort) Since you are new and experiencing discomfort -Quantity= 1 tsp not 1 tbsp yet -Duration= start with 3-5 minutes -gradually increase to 10-15 min over 2-3 weeks Never strain or force swishing Gentle movement is enough

Moderate discomfort usually means -too much oil -too long duration -excess vata aggravation -jaw overuse

TECHNIQUE (gandusha or kavala)

FOR BEGINNERS (recommended0

KAVALA -gently move oilaround -no aggressive swisshing -let oil touch gums and teeth softly

AVOID INITIALLY -Full gandusha (holding mouth completely full of oil)

WHAT THE OIL SHOULD LOOK LIKE AFTER SPITTING -Milky/cloudy-> proper detox -Thick, yellowish, sticky-> excess Ama -Clear oil-> duration too short

Always spit into trash, not sink (prevents blockage)

7) AFTER OIL PULLING- ESSENTIAL STEPS

-Rince mouth with :- Warm water Or triphala decoction

-Brush teeth using= mild herbal toothpaste , or Neem/ baboon based powder

8) MANAGING MODERATE DISCOMFORT (Very important) If you feel -jaw pain -tooth sensitivty -gum soreness

Ayurvedic correction -reduce duration to 3 minutes -warm sesame oil slightly (lukewarm, not hot) -massage jaw and cheeks lightly before oil pulling -Perform NASYA ( 2 drops of warm sesame oil in nostrils after brushing )

9) WHEN NOT TO DO OIL PULLING Avoid oil pulling if -acute tooth infection -severe gum bleeding -mouth ulcers -fever or indigestion (ajirna)

10 ) EXPECTED BENEFITS TIMELINE -7-10 DAYS= reduced mouth odor, smoother gums -3-4 WEEKS= stronger teeth, less sensitivty -6-8 WEEKS= improved jaw comfort, oral detox

11) SIMPLE OPTIONS -VATA DOMINANT= sesame oil (best for you) -PITTA DOMINANT= coconut oil (cooling) -KAPHA DOMINANT= sesame oil + pinch of rock salt (only after 1 month)

Your discomfort is not a failure- it means detox is starting but needs gentler pacing. Ayurveda emphasizes slow adaptation, not intensity

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU
