Hello, Acne scars like the ones you’re describing (papular/pebblestone texture that looks smoother when you stretch the skin) are not completely permanent, but they are structural scars- so they dont disappear quickly… Ayurveda focuses on gradual remodelling of skin + correcting the root imbalance, which can make them much less noticeable over time What type of scars are these? Your description suggests -Hypertrohic/ uneven papular scars -mild fibrotic tissue deposition under skin That’s why -they look smoother when stretched (skin surface is uneven, not deeply pitted) Why do these scars occur? In Ayurveda -Acne= yuvan pidika -Scarring= improper healing due to dosha + dhatu imbalance Main causes -Pitta imbalance= inflammation, redness, damage to skin tissue -kapha imbalance= thick, raised, uneven healing (fibrosis) -rakta dhatu dushti= Impure blood leading to poor skin repair So your condition is mainly -pitta + kapha vitiation with rakta involvement Are they important -No- not completely permanent But -they won’t vanish on their own -require long term correction 2-6 months minimum Treatment goals -reduce inflammation -break down thick scar tissue -purify blood -promote healthy skin regeneration Internal medications 1) Blood purification + skin healing -Mahamanjisthadi kashaya= 15ml + 15ml warm water twice daily before meals for 3 months =cleanses rakta, reduces pigmentation + scars 2) Pitta-kasha balancing -Gandhak rasayana= 1 tab twice daily after meals for 3 months =excellent for acne + skin regeneration 3) Liver + metabolism correction -Arogyavardhini vati= 1 tab twice daily after meals for 2 months =correct metabolism, reduces recurrence 4) Deep tissue healing -Kaishor guggulu= 2 tabs twice daily after meals =reduces inflammation , scar tissue buildup External treatment 1) Daily application Kumkumadi taila -apply at night, leave overnight =improves texture , complexion 2) Scar softening pack 3-4 times/week mix sandalwood powder + turmeric small pinch + rose water Applyfor 15-20 min =smooth surface, reduce unevenness 3) weekly exfoliation -use green gram powder + milk -very gentle scrub =removes dead skin, improves texture Home remedies 1) Aloe vera daily -fresh gel, apply 20 mins =promotes collagen repair 2) Honey + turmeric alternate days =soften scar tissue 3) Potato juice for marks =mild natural bleaching + healing Stress is a trigger in your case-> very important Daily practices -Anulom Vilom= 10 mins -sheetali = reduces pitta -meditation= 10-15 min Yoga -bhujanasana -sarvanasana -matsyasana =improves blood circulation to face DIET -warm water throughout day -neem, turmeric in diet -green vegetables -fruits like pomegranate, apple -whole grains Avoid -spicy, oily, fried food -junk food -excess sugar -dairy if acne prone -late night eating Expected timeline -3-4 weeks= skin starts improving -2-3 months= scars often -4-6 months= visible smoothing Ayurevda can -make scars less visible -improve skin texture significantly -requires patience + consistency Your condition is treatable and reversible to a good extent, especially because -It’s not deep pitted scarring -It responds to stretching (good sign) Focus on Internal purification + external nourishment + stress control If you stay consistent at least 3 months, you should see clear improvement in smoothness and appearance Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

Acne scars, particularly on the chin and under the nose, are often linked to an imbalance in the Pitta dosha. Pitta, which governs heat and metabolism in the body, can become aggravated due to factors like stress, hormonal changes, and improper diet. This leads to inflammation and can result in acne and subsequent scarring.

The papular or pebblestone texture of scars indicates that the skin’s natural healing process has been disrupted, often due to excess heat and inflammation. When you stretch your skin and the scars become less noticeable, it suggests that the scars are surface-level and may respond to treatments aimed at balancing the doshas and supporting skin regeneration.

Ayurveda views these issues as interconnected, not isolated. By addressing the root cause, which is often a systemic imbalance involving Pitta, you can contribute to the reduction of scars. Correcting dosha imbalances through diet, lifestyle adjustments, and herbal remedies can improve your skin’s appearance over time.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible:

1. How long have you been dealing with these acne scars? 2. Have you noticed any particular triggers that worsen your acne, such as dietary changes, stress, or hormonal fluctuations? 3. What is your current skincare routine, and does it include natural or store-bought products? 4. Do you experience any digestive issues, like acidity or irregular bowel movements? 5. How would you describe your stress levels and sleeping patterns? 6. Have you tried any Ayurvedic treatments or home remedies in the past? 7. Do you notice any changes in your skin condition with seasonal changes?

Your detailed responses will help in crafting a more personalized approach to managing your skin concerns.

–“These acne scars happen because inflammation damages the deeper skin layer, leading to loss of collagen. That’s why they look uneven but become less visible when you stretch the skin. In Ayurveda, this is mainly due to Vata and Pitta imbalance—Pitta causes inflammation, and Vata leads to poor healing and tissue loss. These scars are not completely permanent, but they usually don’t disappear fully on their own. However, with proper care, they can become much less noticeable over time. Balancing doshas, improving skin nourishment, and using herbs or oils can help improve skin texture. But deeper scars may need additional treatments if complete removal is desired.” —Internal Medicines: Tab. Arogyavardhini Vati – 1 tab BD after food Cap. Manjisthadi – 1 cap BD after food Churna Ashwagandha – 3 gm HS with warm milk —External Treatment: Kumkumadi Tailam – local application HS (gentle massage) Lepa: Chandana + Mulethi + Rose water – apply 3x/week –Pathya (Do’s): Light, warm, easily digestible diet Include Amla, ghee, green vegetables Adequate sleep, stress management —Apathya (Don’ts): Spicy, oily, fried, junk food Excess tea/coffee Night जागरण (late nights) —Advice: Regular use needed for 2–3 months Helps improve texture

Hi Acne scars can’t be cured by oral medicines because the collagen under the skin gets deformed leading to acne scars formation I would like to suggest you to consult dermatologist for this because CO2 fractional laser is widely used to get rid of these scars…but eating oral medicines and applying ointment etc will not help with scars Thankyou

Namaste, These types of acne scars happen due to improper healing after inflammation. They are not fully permanent, but they don’t disappear completely either. The good part is — since they look less when you stretch your skin, they can improve with proper care. In Ayurveda, this is usually due to pitta (inflammation), kapha (thickened skin), and vata (uneven healing). So treatment focuses on calming inflammation and improving skin repair. You can take: Gandhak Rasayan – 1 tablet twice daily after food Manjishtadi Kashayam – 15 ml with equal water twice daily before food For external care: Apply Kumkumadi oil at night with gentle massage Use fresh aloe vera gel during the day Once or twice a week, use a mild paste of besan and a pinch of turmeric Avoid spicy, oily, and sugary foods, and try to manage stress as it worsens skin healing. Improvement takes time, usually a few months, but scars can become less noticeable with consistency. Consultation can help tailor this further to your needs.
