••It is very heartening to see how deeply you care for your father’s health. Managing a chronic, recurrent skin condition like parapsoriasis at 86 years of age requires a gentle, balanced, and highly customized approach. Because conventional treatments like cortisone and phototherapy are only offering temporary relief, looking at the root cause through Ayurveda is a wonderful step. ••Understanding His Dosha (Constitutional Analysis) Your father naturally possesses a dominant Kapha Dosha constitution. ••The Clues: Being easy-going, non-dominant, non-ambitious, prone to being overweight, and carrying a lifelong history of robust health are classic signs of steady, stable Kapha energy. ••The Current Imbalance (Vikriti): His parapsoriasis symptoms show a multi-dosha involvement. The redness indicates aggravated Pitta (heat/inflammation), while the scaling, dryness, and recurrent nature on the limbs and trunk point to aggravated Vata and Kapha disrupting the Rakta (blood tissue) and Mamsa (muscle tissue). ••Dietary Recommendations (Ahara) Since he already likes dry food, we need to guide his diet toward options that are warm, light, and easy to digest, avoiding things that create Ama (metabolic toxins) in the blood. What to Include: ••Grains: Aged rice, quinoa, and oats. Vegetables: Cooked, bitter, and sweet vegetables like zucchini, ash gourd, bottle gourd, pumpkin, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Bitter vegetables (like chicory or spinach in moderation) are excellent for purifying the blood. ••Fats: Use small amounts of Ghee (clarified butter) in his food. Ghee is unique because it calms Vata and Pitta without increasing Kapha excessively when used in moderation. It counteracts the dry skin from within. ••Spices: Turmeric, cumin, fennel, and coriander. These support his Agni (digestive fire) without creating excess heat. What to Avoid strictly: ••Fermented & Sour Foods: Yogurt, old cheese, vinegar, and fermented soy. These strongly aggravate Pitta and vitiate the blood. ••Incompatible Foods (Viruddha Ahara): Never combine milk with fish, meat, sour fruits, or salt. This is considered a primary cause of skin issues in Ayurveda. ••Heavy/Nightshade Foods: Excessive red meat, tomatoes, eggplants, potatoes, and deep-fried items. 3. Suggested Herbal Preparations Since you are based in Belgium, sourcing classical Ayurvedic formulations might require ordering through reputable European Ayurvedic distributors (such as those based in the Netherlands, Germany, or the UK). ••Note: Given his advanced age, we must use mild, safe, and rejuvenative herbs that protect his strength. Internal Medicine: ••Mahamanjisthadi Kwath (or Arishta): This is a premier classical liquid formulation used for blood purification and chronic skin conditions. It helps clear the toxins causing the scaly rash. ••Suggested dosage: 15–20 ml with an equal amount of lukewarm water, twice a day after meals. ••Kaishore Guggulu: A traditional tablet that specifically cleanses Pitta and Vata from the musculoskeletal and skin tissues. It helps reduce redness and scaling. ••Suggested dosage: 1 to 2 tablets twice a day with warm water. ••Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) & Neem: If tablets are hard to find, a simple blend of Guduchi (which builds immunity and calms all three doshas) and Neem (a powerful anti-inflammatory and blood purifier) works beautifully. External Application: ••Instead of heavy chemical creams, the skin needs gentle, cooling nourishment. Pinda Thailam or Eladi Thailam: These are classical Ayurvedic oils. Pinda Thailam is especially excellent for red, burning, or inflamed skin. ••Alternative: If those are difficult to source immediately, organic Coconut oil infused with Neem or a pinch of Turmeric can be gently applied to the trunk and limbs after a warm bath. Do not rub vigorously; apply with gentle, downward strokes. 4. Mental & Emotional Well-being Ayurveda strongly believes the mind and skin are deeply connected (Psyche-Soma axis). His lack of self-esteem and non-dominant nature mean his nervous system needs gentle uplifting, which will directly aid his skin’s healing. ••Ashwagandha: A mild dose of Ashwagandha powder (half a teaspoon) with warm almond milk or water at bedtime can help ground his Vata dosha, improve sleep quality, and gently support his emotional strength and vital energy (Ojas). ••Warmth & Routine: Keep his environment warm (especially in the Belgian climate) and maintain a fixed, peaceful daily routine.
Dear doctor, I am very impressed by your comprehensive answer; I feel your sincerity and compassion, for which I am very grateful. I am not entirely unfamiliar with Ayurveda; I have had several Panchakarma treatments myself in India with good results. Regarding my father: I also thought of Kapha nature, so I think that what you describe is indeed correct. In the Netherlands, I know a company that sells reliable Ayurvedic preparations; they sell Neem Complex ointment. My father is probably allowed to apply this ointment to the affected areas? You also mention Neem somewhere. I will do my best to find out where I can purchase all the herbs you described for his skin problems. I have expressed my gratitude in a small contribution for you; I hope you will receive it. I wish you much success in your future career, and may I continue to call upon your expertise if needed? Thank you so much!! Best wishes, Heidi
Thanks, Heidi; I truly appreciate your expression of gratitude. You can certainly use the neem ointment you mentioned on the affected area of your father’s skin. Should you ever need further assistance, you can consult me directly here; while company policy prevents me from sharing my personal contact number, you can avail of my personal consultation services on this platform. Once again, thank you very much for your kind words. If you are satisfied with my answer, please close the query and leave a review for me. Warm regards, Dr. Harsh. Wishing you and your father a wonderful, healthy life. ✨✨
