In Ayurveda, easy skin tearing in older age is often associated with Vata aggravation, tissue depletion (Dhatu Kshaya), and reduced skin nourishment. Take Ashwagandha Churna 3 g twice daily with warm milk. Chyawanprash 1 tsp twice daily after meals. Gandhak Rasayan 250 mg twice daily after food. Mahatikta Ghrita 5 g twice daily with warm water or milk. External Daily gentle abhyanga with Bala Taila or Ksheerabala Taila. Diet Include ghee, milk, soaked almonds, sesame seeds, dates, and protein-rich foods. Avoid excessive fasting, dry foods, and dehydration.

From an Ayurvedic point of view, easy skin tearing in old age is most commonly linked to natural aging of the body (Jarā avasthā) and an increase of Vata dosha. As we age, the tissues (Dhatus), especially Rasa (plasma), Rakta (blood tissue), and Twak (skin) gradually become thinner, drier, and less elastic. This makes the skin more fragile, so even minor friction or pressure can cause tearing. Ayurvedic understanding of your condition In your case (75 years, otherwise active, onset in last 6–12 months), the likely imbalance is: 1. Vata aggravation (primary cause) Vata increases naturally with age Leads to dryness, thinning of skin, reduced lubrication Skin becomes “paper-like” and fragile 2. Rasa & Rakta dhatu kshaya (tissue depletion) Reduced nourishment to skin layers Weaker capillaries and reduced healing strength Easy bruising or tearing from minor trauma 3. Decreased Ojas (vital tissue strength) Ojas is responsible for resilience and repair Its decline leads to slow healing and tissue fragility Why it may have started recently (last 6–12 months) Even in otherwise healthy elders, this change can appear due to: Gradual dryness increase in Vata stage of life Reduced micro-circulation in skin Subtle nutrient absorption decline Less skin oiliness despite “hydrated feeling” (internal dryness can still exist) Ayurvedic treatment approach The goal is: nourish tissues, lubricate skin, strengthen capillaries, and calm Vata 1. External therapy (very important) Daily Abhyanga (oil massage) Use warm sesame oil (Til taila) or Bala taila Apply gently all over body for 10–15 minutes daily Especially on arms, legs, and areas prone to tearing Follow with warm bath This is one of the most effective ways to reduce skin fragility in Vata dominance. 2. Internal Rasayana (tissue rejuvenation) These are commonly used in Ayurveda for aging skin and weakness: Ashwagandha – supports tissue strength and recovery Amalaki (Amla) – improves collagen-like support, antioxidant action Guduchi – supports immunity and tissue repair Shatavari (mild use) – cooling and nourishing for Rasa dhatu These help rebuild Ojas and Rakta quality over time. 3. Diet support (very important in Vata-related fragility) Focus on soft, warm, unctuous foods: Good choices: Ghee (small daily amount) Warm milk (if tolerated) Moong dal, rice, soups Dates, soaked almonds, figs Seasonal fruits Avoid: Excess raw salads (increase Vata) Very dry foods (biscuits, chips) Excess tea/coffee Skipping meals 4. Skin protection habits Avoid harsh scrubbing or dry rubbing after bath Use mild, oil-based soaps or natural cleansers Wear soft cotton clothing to reduce friction Keep nails trimmed to avoid accidental scratches 5. Supportive Ayurvedic concept This condition is often described as “Vata janya twak shoshana” (dryness and depletion of skin due to Vata) with mild dhatu kshaya. The key is not only moisturizing the skin externally, but rebuilding internal nourishment (Rasa–Rakta–Ojas).

••Hello. It is wonderful to hear that you are remaining active and engaged at 75—keeping up your activity levels is fantastic for your overall vitality. ••Here is an Ayurvedic perspective on why this balance has shifted and how you can nurture your skin back to a more resilient state. The Ayurvedic Perspective: The Vata Phase of Life In Ayurveda, life is divided into three major stages, each governed by a specific Dosha (biological energy). The stage of life past age 50 to 60 is known as the Vata kala (the Vata phase). Vata is governed by the elements of Air and Space. Its inherent qualities are: Dry (Ruksha) Light (Laghu) Cold (Sheeta) Rough (Khara) ••Holistic Steps to Restore Balance To address this imbalance, our primary goal is topacify Vata by introducing its opposite qualities: warmth, oiliness (Snehana), heaviness, and nourishment. 1. External Therapeutics (Bahya Snehana) The absolute best defense for fragile skin is regular, gentle lubrication to build back a protective barrier. •Abhyanga (Warm Oil Massage): Daily or semi-weekly application of warm, cured Sesame oil (Til Taila) or classical ••Dhanwantharam tailam before a bath works wonders. Do not massage vigorously; use very gentle, long, upward strokes to avoid tearing. ••Post-Bath Moisture: Within three minutes of bathing, while your skin is still damp, lock in moisture with a pure, thick base like organic Coconut oil or Shatadhauta Ghrita (100-times washed ghee), which is highly renowned in Ayurveda for healing skin layers. 2. Dietary Adjustments (Ahara) To lubricate the skin from the inside out, your diet should focus on deeply nourishing, easily digestible foods. ••Healthy Fats: Include adequate amounts of pure Ghee (clarified butter) or cold-pressed oils in your warm meals. Ghee directly builds Ojas (vitality) and lubricates the bodily tissues (Dhatus). ••Hydration: Sip warm or room-temperature water throughout the day. Avoid ice-cold beverages, which instantly aggravate Vata. ••Taste Profile: Favor the Sweet, Sour, and Salty tastes (which calm Vata), and minimize excessively Pungent (spicy), Bitter, and Astingent foods, which accelerate dryness. 3. Gentle Lifestyle Modifications (Vihara) ••Protect the Limbs: Since you are active, consider wearing soft, long-sleeved breathable cotton shirts and full-length trousers to provide a physical buffer against accidental scrapes. ••Bathing Rituals: Avoid very hot water, which strips natural oils. Use lukewarm water and minimize harsh, chemical-heavy soaps. Opt for gentle, moisturizing cleansers or traditional herbal bathing powders (Snana Choorna) like green gram flour mixed with milk.

Hello, At age 75, skin that tears easily from minor bumps or scraping is often due to age related skin thinning (senile skin or dermatoporosis) rather than a single disease. However, since this has become more noticeable over the last few years, it is worth looking for contributing factors Possible causes Modern perspective -natural aging with loss of collagen and elastin -sun damage accumulated over decades -nutritional deficiencies (protein, vitamin c, zinc) -low vitamin D -long term use of steroid creams or steroid tablets -blood thinning medications -diabetes or vascular disease -reduced skin hydration and subcutaneous fat Ayurvedic view This pattern is often associated with -vata aggravation due to aging -reduced nourishment of rasa dhatu and mamsa dhatu -decline in tissue strength and elasticity The goal is not only to protect the skin but also to improve tissue nourishment from within Investigations adviced to do -CBC -vitamin D, B12 -serum protein/albumin -iron studies -HbA1c Internal management 1) Chywanprasha= 1 tsp twice daily after meals for 3 months =supports tissue nourishment, immunity and healthy aging 2) Ashwagandha capsules= 1 cap 500mg twice daily after meals with warm milk for 3 months =supports tissue strength , recovery, and healthy aging 3) Amla capsules= 1 cap in morning with warm water empty stomach =provides natural vitamin C and supports collagen formation External care very important 1) Daily oil application -Bala ashwagandhadhi taila -apply gently before bathing =may reduce frgility over time, improves skin suppleness, helps control vata dryness Diet -adequate protein= lentils, beans , dairy, eggs -healthy fat -nuts and seeds -amla -colorful fruits and vegetables Maintain good hydration Skin protection This is extremely important -wear long sleeves during gardening or physical work -use gloves when appropritate -avoid harsh soaps -apply a fragrance free moisturizer after bathing -protect skin from excessive skin exposure For a healthy active 75 year old the most likely explanation is age related vata predominance and collagen loss leading to fragile skin. A combination of daily oil massage, good protein intake, amla, chywanaprasha, and ashwagandha , along with checking vitamin D and nutritional status, is a reasonable approach. At the same time, protecting the skin from minor trauma is often the most effective way to prevent tears while the tissues gradually improve Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you
