Ashwagandha can help reduce stress and improve energy levels, while shatavari supports lactation and hormonal balance. You can take these herbs in powder form mixed with warm milk or as capsules. It’s also essential to stay hydrated. Drinking warm water, herbal teas, and nourishing broths can help maintain hydration levels and promote digestion. Fenugreek tea is an excellent choice, as it supports lactation and helps with digestion. Navigating postnatal recovery with Ayurveda is genuinely fascinating… and deeply supportive for new mums looking to regain that balance! So, here’s a whole bunch of helpful tips to consider.

Firstly, diet plays a significant role. Post delivery, new mothers should focus on nourishing, warm, simple-to-digest foods that support their “agni” or digestive fire. Khichdi, with ghee, can be easily digestible and providing essential nutrients. Also, adding spices like cumin, fennel, and turmeric help in digestion and reduce bloating. Although, do remember to munch slowly and mindfully.

Hydration is key! Warm water or herbal teas, like those with ginger or fennel, are great choices. They stabilize the body and support tissue-building or “dhatu”. But try to avoid chilled drinks as they can dampen your digestive fire.

It’s not just about food, though. Gentle abdominal massage with warm sesame oil can work wonders. It supports your body to recalibrate and is thought to help in reducing any “vata” imbalance, which tends to go haywire during childbirth. But, avoid massaging if you have had a C-section until healing is well under way!

And sleep – oh, so important! Even with an unpredictable newborn schedule, sneak in naps when you can. It’s like a little reset button for your body’s natural healing processes. Developing a routine around sleep, even if it’s short and fragmented, helps reinforce balance.
