Dealing with dandruff, itchy scalp, and hair loss simultaneously can be frustrating, especially when commercial shampoos don’t seem to help. Ayurveda can provide a holistic approach to tackle these concerns by understanding the root cause, often linked to imbalances in the doshas and the health of the scalp.

Firstly, since your scalp is oily, it suggests a potential imbalance in the Pitta and Kapha doshas. This imbalance can lead to excess production of sebum, which mixes with dead skin cells to form dandruff. Here’s a multidimensional approach you might consider:

1. Diet: Incorporate a Pitta and Kapha pacifying diet. Reduce oily, spicy, and sour foods as these aggravate Pitta. That means no fried foods, spicy sauces or sour pickles. Instead, include more cooling and dry foods like leafy greens, fresh fruits, and whole grains. Drinking enough water is crucial - aim for 8-10 glasses daily to help flush toxins.

2. Ayurvedic Hair Oil: Use sesame oil infused with neem leaves. Warm a small amount of this oil and gently massage it into your scalp about an hour before you wash your hair. Neem is naturally antifungal and can help combat dandruff, while sesame oil is nourishing for the scalp.

3. Herbal Paste: Create a paste using fresh neem and tulsi (holy basil) leaves, and a bit of water. Apply it to your scalp weekly and leave it on for about 30 minutes before rinsing off. Both herbs are known for their antimicrobial properties, helping reduce dandruff and alleviate itching.

4. Amla (Indian Gooseberry) and Shikakai: Mix amla powder with shikakai powder and a bit of water to make a paste. Use this as a shampoo substitute to cleanse your scalp and stimulate hair growth. Amla is rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, while shikakai naturally cleanses without stripping your hair of its natural oils.

5. Stress Management: Stress can exacerbate hair loss and scalp issues, so activities like yoga, meditation or even daily walks can be very helpful. Ayurveda often points out the mind-body connection, suggesting practices that calm the mind could indirectly improve scalp health.

6. Routine Adjustments: Wash your hair no more than 2-3 times a week to avoid stripping your scalp of natural oils. When washing, use lukewarm water, not hot. And remember, avoid scratching your scalp as it can further irritate it and cause more hair loss.

Remember, Ayurveda works best with consistency and patience. Results may not be immediate, but these mindful changes can lead to healthier hair and scalp. Should any symptoms worsen, it’s advisable to seek consultation with a healthcare professional familiar with your specific circumstances.
