To address the persistent issue of oily dandruff and hairfall, it’s important to understand the root cause from an Ayurvedic perspective. Oily dandruff often stems from an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, which leads to excessive oil production. The combination of hairfall and dandruff suggests possible Pitta and Vata dosha imbalances as well.

Begin with dietary modifications. Avoid oily, fried, and excessively spicy foods, which can aggravate Pitta and Kapha. Include more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and avoid processed foods. Adding bitter and astringent tastes to your diet, like leafy greens and turmeric, can help pacify the doshas involved.

A gentle scalp massage with an herbal oil such as Brahmi or Bhringraj, once or twice a week, can nourish the scalp and hair roots while balancing Vata and Pitta. Leave it on for an hour or overnight, if possible, and wash it off with a mild, natural shampoo.

Regular practice of yoga and pranayama, like bhramari and anulom vilom, can aid in reducing stress, aiding in overall hair health. Stress is often a hidden factor in hair issues, and regular practice will help balance all three doshas.

Tripahala is an excellent herbal formulation that can help; it supports detoxification and cleansing of the body, helping to maintain scalp health. Take it as directed, 1 teaspoon mixed with warm water before bed.

Practicing proper scalp hygiene is crucial. Avoid washing your hair with hot water; opt for lukewarm instead. And do not use harsh shampoos. After rinsing, gently blot with a towel—don’t rub harshly.

Consider ubtan or natural hair packs. Mixing amla powder with yogurt or water into a paste can be applied weekly to the scalp, left for 20-30 minutes, then washed off. This can aid in reducing oiliness and strengthen hair roots.

If these steps do not provide relief, consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner in person may be beneficial. They can access your prakriti and provide a tailored approach. Sometimes local treatments and panchakarma therapies might be necessary if the condition is stubborn.
