Brown rashes on the skin accompanied by itching can be uncomfortable, but Ayurveda looks at these symptoms as an imbalance of the body’s doshas—commonly an issue with Pitta, which when agitated, can cause skin reactions. Addressing the root cause involves balancing the doshas and pacifying Pitta to provide relief.

For the rashes, start by applying a natural, cooling paste on the affected areas. Mix sandalwood powder with rose water to form a paste and apply it gently to the rashy areas for about 20 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This combination traditionally soothes irritated skin and reduces heat.

Internally, herbal remedies can support your body in detoxifying and calm Pitta. Consider using Guduchi or Neem tablets, known for purifying the blood and maintaining clear skin. Take 500 mg of Neem or Guduchi with warm water after meals twice a day, but it’s always wise to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to confirm these herbs suite your specific needs.

Also, for boosting immunity, Ayurveda places emphasis on maintaining the balance of the body and its energies (Agni). Consuming Chyawanprash—a herbal jam made from Amla and other rejuvenating herbs—is beneficial. Take one teaspoon daily on an empty stomach in the morning to strengthen your immune system over time.

Ensure your diet reinforces these efforts by including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables while avoiding spicy, fried, and overly salty foods that may aggravate Pitta. Incorporate cooling foods like cucumber, watermelon, and coconut water. Stay hydrated with plenty of water.

Finally, prioritize stress relief through regular meditation or yoga, as stress can exacerbate Pitta imbalances. Deep breathing exercises (Pranayama) like Sheetali and Sheetkari can further cool the body and mind.

Monitor the rashes carefully. If they worsen or if there’s significant pain or swelling, it’s crucial to seek immediate medical attention from a healthcare professional.
