Keloids can be frustrating to deal with, especially when they are numerous and located on the back. In Ayurveda, the focus is on balancing the doshas—mainly Pitta and Kapha—and ensuring proper healing of the tissues, or dhatus. While the conventional approach you mentioned involves injections, Ayurveda might offer some alternative therapeutic options.

First, let’s talk about diet. Keloids are often associated with excess Pitta, and it’s helpful to adopt a diet that pacifies Pitta. This includes incorporating cooling foods like cucumber, zucchini, melons, and coconut water — avoiding spicy, sour, and overly salty foods which can aggravate Pitta. Fresh vegetables and whole grains should be a main focus, aiming to keep your meals light and easily digestible.

Topically, you might consider using herbal pastes and oils. Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) can be made into a paste with aloe vera or rose water and applied gently to the keloids. This paste helps in better skin healing and reducing inflammation. In addition to this, massaging your back with sandalwood oil or sesame oil infused with Guggulu can promote softening of the keloid tissue over time, but it’s key to be consistent.

Internally, you might try Turmeric-based formulations. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and could help reduce the appearance of keloids when taken along with warm milk or water, thrice a day. Herbs like Triphala help detoxification which contribute to a healthy skin environment.

Yoga and meditation are encouraged to help manage stress, which can otherwise exacerbate dosha imbalances. Practices like Anulom Vilom can cool down Pitta and promote overall calmness in your system.

For some, lifestyle adjustments including maintaining a regular sleep cycle and drinking ample water to keep your skin hydrated naturally reduce keloid severity.

Every individual’s constitution is different, so it is wise to consult an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner who can assess your specific prakriti (constitution) and dosha imbalances before proceeding with any treatment. Though patience and regularly using these natural methods can take longer than conventional treatments, they can be quite beneficial in the long run.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
