how to store rosemary water - #24031

Victoria

I am really trying to figure out how to store rosemary water properly. Recently, I started making it for my hair, and I read it's awesome for promoting growth and reducing dandruff, which I’ve been struggling with for a while. After brewing it, I just left it in a jar on my counter, but I’m not sure if that’s right. I mean, the first batch I made didn’t smell great after a few days. It kind of got this weird, sour scent, ugh! 😖 I’m worried I'm not getting all the benefits because I didn't know how to store rosemary water the right way. Should it be in the fridge or what? Also, how long can I keep it? I made a big batch earlier this week and now it’s sitting in the fridge, but the thought of wasting it pains me! Should I just start fresh with smaller amounts? Any tips on how to store rosemary water would really help. Thanks!

When it comes to storing rosemary water, especially when you’re using it for hair growth and dandruff, it’s important to keep freshness at the forefront. You see, rosemary water is essentially an infusion, and like most infusions, it’s prone to spoilage if not stored correctly. Let’s dig a little into how you can store it optimally to retain its benefits.

First, after brewing your rosemary water, allow it to cool completely before transferring it into a storage container. That sour scent you mentioned is definitely a sign of spoilage, likely due to its exposure at room temperature. It’s best to use a clean glass bottle or jar with an airtight lid. Once transferred, immediately place it in the fridge. The colder temperature inhibits the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms that can cause the water to spoil quickly.

In terms of duration, rosemary water doesn’t have a particularly long shelf life. When stored in the refrigerator, it can last about a week before it starts losing its potency and possibly developing off-putting smells. If you’ve made a large batch and are worried about wasting it, it might be wise to scale down the batch size. This helps ensure you’re using it while it’s still fresh and potent.

For application, whenever you’re ready to use the rosemary water, shake the jar lightly to mix any settled content before pouring out the amount you need. This gentle agitation helps distribute the active compounds evenly. Be sure to always use clean utensils or hands when handling the water to avoid introducing new bacteria.

If you notice any changes in color or smell, it’s a clear indication that it’s time to make a new batch. Freshness is key, especially when using it therapeutically on something as sensitive as your scalp. I’d recommend making smaller amounts, ensuring you’re utilizing all its qualities efficiently.

If your lifestyle allows, brewing a fresh batch weekly aligns not only with better hygiene but also aligns well with the principles of Ayurveda, emphasizing freshness and purity in remedies applied to the body.
