which mehendi is best for hair - #24161

Mia

I am trying to figure out which mehendi is best for hair. A few months back, I started noticing my hair thinning and getting really dull. I heard about mehendi helping with these issues and decided to give it a shot. I tried a brand that sounded good, but honestly, I didn’t see much difference! My friend suggested that maybe I should be looking for a specific type of mehendi. Last week, I went online and saw that people talk about different kinds with added herbs and oils? I’m really confused, like is there a best mehendi that actually targets hair growth? Or, like, what should I look for in the ingredients? My hair feels super dry and frizzy too. I don't know if the one I used was pure mehendi or what!!!🤔 Any tips are welcome! Maybe you can help me find which mehendi is best for hair growth and hydration? Really hoping to see some improvement soon! 🥺

Choosing the right mehendi for your hair can indeed make a significant difference, especially when you’re experiencing issues like thinning and dryness. In Ayurveda, henna (or mehendi) is highly regarded for its cooling properties and its ability to nourish and condition the scalp and hair.

Firstly, it’s crucial to ensure the mehendi you use is 100% natural and pure. Many commercial brands add chemicals or metallic salts which, while sometimes enhancing color, may not be ideal for the health of your hair. These additives could potentially contribute to the dryness you’re experiencing, so it’s best to stick with organic, unadulterated henna powder.

When it comes to hair growth and hydration, consider mehendi that’s mixed with Ayurvedic herbs and oils. Look for those with ingredients like Amla (Indian gooseberry), Bhringraj, Brahmi, Shikakai or Hibiscus. These herbs are well-known in Ayurveda for promoting hair strength, shine, and growth. For instance, Amla is rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants that enhance scalp health. While Bhringraj is recognized for limiting hair fall and promoting new growth. Shikakai gently cleanses the hair, and Brahmi helps in reducing scalp itchiness and dryness.

To address your hair’s dryness, consider mixing your mehendi with hydrating ingredients like coconut milk or yogurt. These will provide extra moisture. Adding a tablespoon of oil like mustard, coconut, or olive oil to the paste can also counteract the drying effect of henna. Let the mixture sit for a couple of hours before you apply it. And remember, leave the paste on your hair for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours — going too long can dry out your hair more.

Applying mehendi every 4-6 weeks may help you notice a difference. Also, keep your dosha type in mind - if you have a Vata imbalance, the dryness and frizziness might be aggravated. Balancing this with a suitable diet, rich in healthy fats like ghee and nuts, can indirectly support healthier hair. Ensure you’re hydrating adequately too.

Before trying any new mixture, conducting a small patch test on your skin to rule out allergies or adverse reactions is a wise step. If your hair issues persist, consulting with a professional for a tailored regimen is a good idea. Remember, achieving balance might take some trial and error, but with consistent care, you should notice improvements.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
