can we use gulab jal as toner - #24273

Audrey

I am really curious about this! I’ve been trying to find a good toner for my face, like something natural and simple since my skin has been super sensitive lately. I heard about gulab jal and how it’s supposed to be amazing for the skin, and I keep wondering, can we use gulab jal as toner, really? Last week, I tried a DIY face mask with honey, turmeric, and of course, gulab jal. The next day my skin felt so much better, but then I questioned if my face would get used to it too quickly? I've read that gulab jal can be soothing but wasn't sure how it would work as a daily toner. My friends say it helps with acne and redness, and I’m kinda dealing with that too, especially around my cheeks. Just worried if using gulab jal as toner might dry out my skin or if it's okay to use every day? Should I be mixing it with something else, or just splash it on? Any tips would be appreciated!

Yes, gulab jal, commonly known as rose water, is indeed a fantastic natural toner, and you’re on the right track considering it for your sensitive skin. According to Ayurvedic principles, gulab jal has cooling, soothing, and anti-inflammatory properties, which make it suitable for balancing skin issues like Pitta dosha imbalances such as sensitivity, redness, and inflammation.

Using gulab jal is quite simple. You can use it directly without mixing; just ensure it’s a high-quality, pure rose water without any additives or artificial fragrance. Take a little on a cotton pad and gently swipe it over your face after cleansing. This can help soothe your skin and reduce redness effectively.

Daily use is generally safe, but since your skin is sensitive, it’s wise to observe how it reacts. Though unlikely to dry out your skin due to its hydrating properties, everyone’s skin is unique. If your skin feels taut or dry, complement it with a natural moisturizer like aloe vera gel or a light facial oil, which will further nourish your skin.

For acne, the antibacterial properties of gulab jal can be helpful, too, in combination with the turmeric and honey mask you mentioned. They work well together to reduce bacterial load and soothe inflammation. Just a word of caution: turmeric can sometimes leave a stain on the skin, so ensure you’re using a small amount and wash thoroughly afterwards.

You might also consider incorporating Ayurvedic herbs like Neem in your routine, known for its purifying action, but always patch test any new ingredients first. If at any point you experience irritation, it’s advisable to rinse off the product and discontinue use.

As for your concern about getting used to it, skincare, especially with natural ingredients like this, is all about consistency and gentleness. Just enjoy your routine and observe how your skin feels—it’s usually the best guide.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
