is chandan good for skin - #24625

Chloe

I am really struggling with some skin issues lately and heard about chandan. Like, my skin has been super oily, and I keep breaking out, especially on my cheeks and forehead. A friend mentioned that chandan could help, saying how it has this cooling effect and might be good for controlling oil. But I'm kinda skeptical, y'know? I also have some dark spots left from previous breakouts, and I'm unsure if chandan is good for skin healing too. I tried a few products that were supposed to help, but nothing seems to work, and I think I might also have sensitive skin. Should I just use chandan on its own, or is it better to mix it with something else? I’m not really sure what the best approach is. Is chandan good for skin overall or just a hype thing? Anyone here have real experience with it? How long does it usually take to see any results? Ugh, I'm just ready for my skin to be clear again!

Chandan, also known as sandalwood, indeed holds a revered place in Ayurveda, especially when it comes to skin care. Its cooling and soothing properties can be beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin like yours. In Ayurveda, Chandan is seen to pacify the Pitta dosha, which is associated with excessive heat and inflammation, conditions you’re experiencing with your skin issues.

For your oily skin and breakouts, using Chandan in moderation could help in controlling the excess sebum production and soothe the inflammation. To avoid any potential irritation, you might want to start with a paste made from chandan powder mixed with rose water. Apply this mixture to the affected areas, leave it on for about 15-20 minutes, and rinse with lukewarm water. Performing this ritual two to three times a week could gradually help in reducing oiliness and breakouts.

Incorporating additional ingredients can enhance Chandan’s effects. For instance, mixing with honey—known for its antimicrobial properties—can help reduce dark spots and scars from previous acne. You can try a mix of chandan powder, a teaspoon of honey, and a touch of turmeric for its healing properties.

However, avoid using it too frequently or in large quantities, particularly given your potentially sensitive skin. Keep an eye out for any signs of irritation or allergy. It’s always a good idea to patch test any new mixture on a small section of your skin first.

Realistically, you may begin to notice some improvements in a few weeks, but it can take a few months for significant changes to manifest. Ayurveda focuses on long-term balance, so patience is key.

Remember, Ayurveda places great importance on understanding your body as a whole. A holistic approach, balancing diet and lifestyle, alongside topical treatments may contribute to healthier skin. Avoid spicy and oily foods, as they can increase Pitta and potentially worsen oiliness and breakouts. Drink ample water, and consider practicing calming activities like yoga or meditation to manage stress levels which can also affect skin health.

For persistent or severe skin issues, consider consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can take into account your personal constitution and provide a tailored approach. If the issue continues to cause significant concern, seeking advice from a dermatologist may also be wise for further guidance and treatment options.
