Severe Hairfall during Covid and post covid and keloids on back - #24678

Ajay Rawat

I started losing hair during covid and later on my brother also started to shed hair and after some time we could see our scalp the hair fall did not stop so we took blood test and their were some nutritional deficiencies like vit d iron b12 so we corrected them but the hair fall did not stop so later we had prp andI started using minoxidil and my hair were back but after using minoxidil for more than 1 year suddenly 2 months back my hair started to fall again. But doctors told me it should not have happened if you are using minoxidil regularly.

It’s quite common to see hair loss after stressful events, including illness like COVID. Nutritional deficiencies can significantly impact hair health, so it’s good that you addressed issues with vitamin D, iron, and B12. However, if hair loss persists, it’s worth exploring from an Ayurvedic standpoint as well.

In Ayurveda, hair fall can often be linked to an imbalance in the doshas, particularly Pitta dosha. Stress, irregular diet, or even hormonal imbalances can increase Pitta, leading to hair loss. This is exacerbated by toxins or ama in the body, which can affect the vitality and nourishment of your hair.

First off, focus on a diet that pacifies Pitta. Include cooling foods like cucumber, melons, and green leafy vegetables as they are refreshing and pacify heat. Incorporating herbs like amla (Indian gooseberry) can be quite beneficial, both consumed and applied topically for its cooling and nourishing effects.

Oil massages, or abhyanga, can be very helpful. Consider using bhringraj or coconut oil. Warm the oil slightly and massage gently into the scalp regularly. This not only strengthens the roots but also improves circulation and calms the mind.

For internal health, keep boosting your digestive fire (agni) with spices like cumin, coriander, and fennel. Avoid overly spicy, fried, or processed foods that exacerbate Pitta.

It’s also crucial to manage stress through regular practice of pranayama (breathing exercises) or meditation, as stress is a common aggravator of hair loss.

Regarding minoxidil, it may provide temporary relief but doesn’t address the root cause in Ayurvedic terms. It might be more beneficial to slowly transition to a natural routine while ensuring you’re not abruptly stopping any western treatments without consulting with healthcare professionals. Adjust your routine to harmonize with your body, and hopefully, the shedding will reduce over time.

If hair fall continues, consult with a professional for further targeted management.

Here’s a clear and explainable Ayurvedic approach in one paragraph:

Hair fall after COVID and due to deficiencies like Vitamin D, B12, and iron is seen as a result of Pitta aggravation, dhatu kshaya (tissue depletion), and weakened agni (metabolism) in Ayurveda. To restore hair health, treatments should work from the root level. Internal medicines like Bhringrajasava, Narasimha Rasayana, Amalaki Rasayana, and Brahma Rasayana help strengthen the hair roots by nourishing rasa and rakta dhatus. Nasya therapy (putting medicated oil drops in the nose) using Anu Taila or Brahmi ghee is highly effective in stopping hair fall as it stimulates the brain and scalp nerves. Shiroabhyanga (head massage) with oils like Bhringraj Taila or Neelibhringadi Taila improves circulation, reduces stress, and promotes regrowth. In chronic cases, Shirodhara and Takradhara (therapeutic pouring on the forehead) help reduce stress-related hormonal hair loss. A Pitta-pacifying diet and avoiding hot, spicy foods, late nights, and mental strain are equally important for long-term hair stability.
