how to use chandan powder for face - #25436

Audrey

I am really confused about how to use chandan powder for face. A few weeks ago, my friend suggested I try it because my skin's been looking really dull and I've got some random breakouts. I looked it up and saw tons of posts about chandan powder being good for skin but no real clear step-by-step on how to use chandan powder for face effectively. I tried mixing it with water and applying it, but honestly, it just felt kind of weird and didn’t seem like it did much. Like, should I mix it with something else? I heard something about using it with honey or maybe yogurt or even rose water? But then there's so much info out there, I just get lost 😩. Oh! And how often can I do this? is it even safe for daily use? Just kinda worried about making my skin worse since it is already sensitive. Any advice on how to use chandan powder for face would be super helpful! Thanks!!

Using chandan powder, also known as sandalwood powder, can indeed be beneficial for your skin when used correctly. In Ayurveda, it’s valued for its cooling and soothing properties, which can help address dullness and breakouts. Let me provide some step-by-step guidance on how to use it effectively.

1. Choosing the right ingredients: For sensitive skin experiencing dullness and breakouts, combining chandan powder with ingredients that have calming properties is best. Rose water is excellent for sensitive skin as it’s gentle and balancing. Consider adding a small amount of honey for hydration, and reducing breakouts due to its antimicrobial properties.

2. Making the paste: Start by combining about a tablespoon of chandan powder with roughly equal amounts of rose water to form a smooth paste. Feel free to add a teaspoon of honey if you need extra moisture. Alternatively, for brighter skin, you could use yogurt instead of rose water for a mild exfoliation and extra nourishment.

3. Applying the mask: Before applying, cleanse your face with a mild, non-irritating cleanser. Gently pat your skin dry. Apply the chandan mixture evenly across the face, avoiding the sensitive eye area. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. You might feel a slight cooling sensation, which is normal.

4. Rinsing off: Use lukewarm water to gently wash off the mask. Cleanse thoroughly to ensure no residue remains. You can follow up with a light moisturizer suited for sensitive skin if needed.

5. Frequency of use: To avoid irritation, use the chandan mask 2-3 times a week. Daily use might be too much especially on sensitive skin as yours. Ensure to monitor how your skin reacts and adjust the frequency if necessary.

It’s always good to do a patch test on your forearm to check for any allergic reactions before applying anything new to your face. Monitoring the quality of the chandan powder is important too—seek for a pure, authentic version without additional artificial substances, which can potentially irritate your skin.

Lastly, make sure you’re staying hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, as this is part of keeping your skin healthy from within. If issues persist or worsen, consider consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized approach.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
