how to apply chandan powder on face - #25728

Avery

I am really curious about how to apply chandan powder on face because I've been hearing a lot about it from friends and online. Recently, I developed this weird rash on my cheeks, right after I tried using some new skincare stuff. I’m kinda worried, plus my skin feels so irritated and bumpy now. Anyway, I was reading that chandan powder can help with inflammation and that it's good for the skin, like soothing, or something. But here’s the thing—how to apply chandan powder on face correctly? I mean, do you mix it with water, or should I add something else? My sister suggested mixing it with curd, but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea or will it cause an even greater reaction! Also, how often can I use it? I just want that smooth feeling back, you know? I saw some videos but they all seemed kind of confusing! Am I overthinking this or what? Any tips or advice on how to apply chandan powder on face would be a lifesaver!

Certainly, applying chandan (sandalwood) powder can offer relief for skin irritation. Its cooling properties are indeed beneficial for reducing inflammation and calming irritated skin. Here’s how you can use it effectively:

First, when using chandan powder on your face, it’s important to consider the current sensitivity due to that rash. Start with a patch test on a small area to ensure it doesn’t exacerbate irritation. If all’s good, you can proceed with application.

Mix chandan powder with a liquid base that suits your skin type. For inflamed skin, plain water or rose water can be soothing as they’re gentle and won’t add further irritation. Mix until it forms a smooth paste; it should be neither too runny nor too thick, easy to spread over the skin. Your sister’s suggestion to mix it with curd is also a viable option, given that curd (yoghurt) contains lactic acid which is cooling and often gentle. However, since your skin is already irritated, it’s best to start mild—perhaps try water first.

Apply the paste evenly across the affected area of your face. Avoid any areas where the skin is broken or severely inflamed. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the chandan to work its soothing magic. Rinse off gently with lukewarm water. Pat the skin dry with a soft towel, avoiding any harsh rubbing.

Frequency of use should ideally be gauged by how your skin responds. Initially, apply not more than 2-3 times a week. Observe any changes closely—positive or negative. If there’s any increase in irritation, discontinue and consult an Ayurvedic practitioner.

Avoid applying any other potent skincare products immediately afterward, as they could contribute to further irritation. Sometimes the best strategy is to keep it simple and natural, allowing your skin to heal without too much interference. Body’s natural healing, with a little help from chandan, can sometimes work wonders.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
