White patches of dandruff on the scalp and ears can indicate an imbalance in the body, often associated with excess Vata and Kapha doshas. When these doshas are aggravated, it can lead to dryness, flakiness, and accumulation of dead cells, contributing to your symptoms. Addressing this with a Siddha-Ayurvedic approach involves both external and internal remedies.

First, focus on dietary practices. An anti-Vata and anti-Kapha diet can be beneficial. This means favoring warm, spicy, and slightly oily foods while reducing intake of cold, dry, and overly sweet or salty foods. Avoid processed foods high in preservatives, as these can exacerbate the imbalance.

Internally, you might find benefit in herbal decoctions. Herbal teas made from neem or tulsi can help cleanse the skin from the inside. Add a pinch of turmeric to your meals or drinks, as it has potent anti-inflammatory properties and may support healthy skin. Consider taking a triphala supplement at night, aiding digestion and clearing toxins.

For topical application, massage the scalp and ear areas gently with warm sesame oil or coconut oil infused with neem leaves. Do this twice weekly to help pacify Vata and Kapha and nourish the scalp. Post-massage, allow the oil to sit for 30 minutes before washing off with a mild Ayurvedic shampoo.

In cases where relief isn’t found through natural remedies over a few weeks, it is important to consult with an Ayurvedic physician or dermatologist to rule out any other conditions like psoriasis or dermatitis that may require specific treatment. Always prioritize safe and effective care for your symptoms.

Thick layers of dandruff on the scalp and ears could indicate a condition known as seborrheic dermatitis, which is often linked to an imbalance in the body’s doshas, particularly Pitta and Kapha. Ayurveda focuses on addressing the root cause of such imbalances. Let’s get into some specific steps you might consider to manage this condition through an Ayurvedic approach.

First, let’s talk diet as it’s fundamental in Ayurveda. You should aim for a Pitta-Kapha pacifying diet. Avoiding spicy, oily, and fermented foods is important. Instead, favor fresh vegetables, fruits like pears and melons, and whole grains like quinoa and barley. Adding spices like turmeric, cumin, and coriander in moderate amounts can help balance these doshas, cooling Pitta and reducing excess Kapha.

Hydration and detoxification work wonders. Drinking warm or room-temperature water may help maintain digestive fire (Agni) well-balanced. Including a cup of herbal tea, such as ginger or tulsi, once or twice a day could be beneficial. Aim for consistency with this, it helps.

As external treatment, consider using an herbal hair oil containing neem, bringharaj, or coconut oil. These provide relief and nourish the scalp. Applying a couple of hours before washing, perhaps thrice a week, can be supportive in reducing dandruff. Neem, for its antifungal qualities, and bringharaj are particularly cooling and soothing.

Try practicing regular oil pulling with sesame oil in the morning and Nasya, a practice of applying ghee or sesame oil in the nasal passages. These can aid balance and detoxification and are generally useful for skin and respiratory issues.

Lifestyle modifications matter too. Prioritize stress management through daily relaxation techniques — maybe yoga, pranayama, or meditation. Ayurveda emphasizes their role in maintaining dosha harmony.

If you’ve tried these options and still no improvement, have another conversation with your Ayurvedic doctor. Certain cases might require a more tailored approach, such as specific panchakarma procedure or customized herbal formulas.
