How to treat Lipoma on head, it has grown big. - #30064

Rituraj

My 5 year old son has lipoma on his head (Prominence of subgaleal soft tissue in the high left parietal scalp without abnormal vascularity or enhancement). Here's been kept away from Gluten, Dairy and animal based food products. Doctor said even if it is removed surgically,it will grow back again in 10-20 years. Please advise if Ayurveda can play any role?

Lipomas in the Ayurvedic context are often associated with an imbalance in the meda dhatu (fat tissue) and may be generally linked to Kapha dosha. Since your son is following a diet without gluten, dairy and animal-based products, it’s important to continue a diet that balances Kapha while nourishing the body.

Emphasize foods that are light, warming, and help in reducing Kapha accumulation. Encourage a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, especially ones known for their detoxifying properties like bitter gourd (karela) and green leafy vegetables. Opt for whole grains like quinoa and millet which provide necessary nutrients without aggravating Kapha. Avoid refined sugars and heavy oily foods, sticking with light oils like mustard or olive oil if needed.

Herbal remedies may also be useful. Regular application of Triphala powder could aid in maintaining balance in the body, as it is well-known in Ayurveda for its detoxifying properties. One might also consider using turmeric due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, Ayurveda advocates for regular use of herbs like ashwagandha or guggulu, known for their ability to balance doshas and support the body’s tissues.

Daily lifestyle and exercise can play pivotal role too. Encourage playful and engaging activities that stimulate circulation and promote flexibility, thus aiding the body’s natural detoxification processes. Also, pranayama (breathing exercises), particularly kapalabhati or anulom-vilom, help in improving metabolism and reducing stress.

While Ayurveda can offer supportive measures, it’s important to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to tailor a plan specifically for your son’s unique constitution and needs. Given that his lipoma is on the head, ongoing monitoring from a medical professional is crucial to ensure it does not pose any additional concerns. Always keep communication open between holistic approaches like Ayurveda and conventional medical care to ensure the best possible outcomes for your son’s health.

Lipomas are often considered to form due to an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, which relates to an excess of tissue formation. In Ayurveda, the aim is to address the root cause, which often involves rebalancing Kapha, and enhancing the body’s metabolic processes (agni) and energy channels, or nadis.

First, though I understand you’re already taking dietary precautions, Ayurveda recommends ensuring a diet that is light, warm, and Kapha-pacifying to help manage tissue growth. Try incorporating more warm spices like ginger or turmeric in meals, as they can help to boost circulation and metabolic activity. Additionally, foods like bitter gourd, which are bitter and astringent, may help to manage Kapha.

Herbal formulations such as Triphala can be beneficial here too, assisting in the detoxification process and enhancing digestion. You might want to administer a small child-friendly dose after consulting with a practitioner familiar with children’s needs. You can mix it with warm water and give it to him at night.

External application of oils infused with Brahmi or Ashwagandha may help. Gently massaging these into the scalp can support circulatory stimulation, though always ensure sensitivity to ingredients by performing a patch test first.

Lifestyle practices can further aid balancing Kapha. Regular physical activity suited to your son’s energy level is encouraged, daily activity can help balance Kapha and maintain the body’s natural rhythms. Additionally, cautiously supervised breathing exercises may aid in enhancing energy flow through the nadis. But given your boy’s age, adapt exercises to be gentle and engaging.

It is crucial however to closely observe the lipoma over time for any changes such as rapid growth or discomfort, and seek conventional medical guidance as needed. Ayurveda can play a supportive role, but it should be integrated with regular monitoring and medical care to ensure a safe approach.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
