how to use kalonji seeds for hair - #36817
I am really struggling with my hair lately, it's been so dull and brittle, ugh! A friend mentioned kalonji seeds and how they're amazing for hair growth and health. I decided to look into it but I’m kinda confused about HOW to use kalonji seeds for hair. Do I need to make an oil or can I just sprinkle them on my food?? I tried mixing some kalonji powder with coconut oil last week but it didn’t really seem to do much, maybe I didn’t let it sit long enough? Also, I read something about soaking the seeds before using them and I totally forgot to do that! 🤦♀️ Should I be soaking them for like a couple hours or overnight or what?? And my hair feels soooo dry, almost like straw, which is the worst. I wonder if I should add honey or something too when using the kalonji seeds? Would love some tips on different ways, you know, how to use kalonji seeds for hair without making a total mess. Oh, and do I have to use it daily or just a few times a week? Sorry I'm bombarding with questions, just really hoping to fix this hair disaster! Thanks everyone!

Starting with kalonji seeds, they’re quite awesome when it comes to revitalizing hair health due to their rich content of nutrients and antioxidants. To really harness their benefits, you might consider using them in a couple of different ways.
Kalonji oil is a popular approach. You can make it at home by lightly roasting the seeds to enhance their potency, then grinding them into a powder. Combine this powder with coconut oil in a ratio of about 1:2. You should gently heat this mixture on a low flame for 5–7 minutes, then allow it to cool down completely before straining it into a clean container. Apply the oil on your scalp and hair twice a week, focusing on the roots and dry ends. Let it sit for at least 30–60 minutes before washing it out with a mild shampoo. You can try adding a teaspoon of honey to the oil mix to help combat dryness, as honey is a natural humectant.
Regarding soaking, typically, soaking the seeds overnight isn’t necessary, but you can soak them for a few hours if you’re planning to use them in an infusion or a hair rinse. For a DIY hair rinse, soak about two to three teaspoons of kalonji seeds in warm water for 3-4 hours, then use the strained water after shampooing as a final rinse. This method can provide a natural shine to dull hair without causing a greasy buildup.
As for consumption, indeed, sprinkling a small amount of whole seeds or using kalonji seed powder into your meals, like soups or salads, can offer internal support to hair health, thanks to their nutrient profile. However, this approach alone might not be potent enough to see significant visible changes in your hair texture.
You don’t necessarily need to use kalonji every day. Twice or thrice a week is quite sufficient and avoids potential build-up. As always, remember to patch-test any new product on a small area to ensure there are no adverse reactions. Given your dry hair condition, ensure you maintain hydration by drinking enough water and balancing your diet. Keeping a dosha-balanced lifestyle will aid overall hair health as well.
If your hair concerns persist, or if they’re causing considerable distress, consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner would be valuable to consider any underlying imbalances that may need addressing.
