why hair fall in rainy season - #39199

Avery

I am really worried about my hair fall problem, especially now that the rainy season is here. Like, last year around this time, I noticed my hair was shedding a lot more than usual, but I thought it was just a phase. But now, it's happening again, and I can't help but think, why hair fall in rainy season is so common? Every time there’s a downpour, I feel like I see more hair in my brush. I mean, my scalp is kinda oily, but I also read that the moisture can lead to fungal infections or maybe mites or something? Ugh, who knows! I tried using a few herbal shampoos, thinking maybe they can help with the hair fall, but nothing seems to be working. Also, I am super anxious about using too many products since I worry it might make things worse. Also, another thing, my dad had thinning hair too and it’s stressing me out because now I’m also thinking it could be genetic or whatever. I’m just not sure if this is just seasonal and if I should wait it out or see a doctor, I really wanna know, why hair fall in rainy season happens. Anyone else faced this and what worked for you? I'm open to any homemade remedies or Ayurvedic suggestions!

During the rainy season, it’s common for individuals to experience increased hair fall, a phenomenon that can be attributed to several interrelated factors from an Ayurvedic perspective. The increased humidity during this time can lead to an imbalance in the doshas, particularly the Kapha and Pitta doshas. The scalp, overwhelmed by moisture, tends to produce excess oil, which can contribute to hair fall. Additionally, the wet environment can promote fungal infections or dandruff, further exacerbating hair loss.

Ayurveda suggests focusing on maintaining dosha balance and strengthening hair roots. Given your concern about oily scalp and potential infections, it’s crucial to cleanse the scalp without over-stripping it. Avoid heavy oils during this period; instead, opt for a light oil massage using coconut oil infused with neem leaves. Neem helps in preventing scalp infections due to its antifungal and antibacterial properties.

Regarding your concern about genetics, while hereditary factors play a role, their impact can be mitigated with consistent care. Try including more Pitta-pacifying foods in your diet like cucumber, cilantro, and amla to cool down and balance the doshas. These help in nourishing the hair from the inside.

Additionally, prepare a herbal rinse using hibiscus leaves and flowers. Boil them in water, let it cool, and rinse your hair with this concoction after shampooing. This helps in strengthening hair roots and adding shine.

If anxiety is troubling, it might indirectly affect your hair health too. Consider practicing calming activities like yoga or pranayama to harmonize your body’s energy and reduce stress. Remember, excessive hair fall could be seasonal, but if you notice it increasing, consulting a specialist might bring more personalized solutions.

Patience and consistent care can naturally help in managing these seasonal challenges and fostering healthier hair.

Hair fall can indeed become more noticeable during the rainy season, and Ayurvedic understanding provides insight into why this may happen. The increased humidity and dampness during monsoons can affect the kapha and vata doshas in our body. This can lead to excess sebum production on your scalp, which might contribute to the oily feeling you mentioned—environmental humidity also fosters fungal infections, which can further weaken hair roots.

The imbalance of vata dosha can cause dryness from within, even though your scalp is oily, affecting the hair follicles and causing shedding. Addressing this requires both external care and internal balancing. First, ensure you’re using a gentle, natural shampoo with ingredients like amla or bhringraj, beneficial in strengthening the hair. Avoid harsh chemicals and excessive products; they can strip essential oils from your scalp.

For home remedies, a weekly hair mask with aloe vera gel and coconut oil can help maintain moisture balance. Massage your scalp gently with warm sesame oil before washing your hair, as this can improve circulation and nourish the roots. Also, consider dietary support—consume foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants, like flaxseeds and fresh fruits, which assist in maintaining healthy hair.

Genetics can have a role in hair fall; however, focus on what you can control—managing stress and ensuring adequate hydration and sleep are vital. If your hair fall persists despite these measures, consult an Ayurvedic physician for a more personalized approach that considers your prakriti and dosha balance. If you suspect any persistent scalp infection or unusual symptoms, a prompt consultation with a healthcare provider is advisable to rule out any underlying conditions.
