why do i have hair fall - #39213

Aria

I am really worried about my hair fall lately. I mean, I never thought it could get this bad. I noticed a few months ago, just small clumps would come out when I washed my hair, but now it feels like it’s increasing! I’m shedding hair every time I run my fingers through it. Why do I have hair fall, and could it be related to stress? I just started a new job, and it’s pretty chaotic, so my mind is constantly racing. I also have these huge bags of hair on my brush every time I do my hair, and it's honestly freaking me out. I thought maybe it’s my diet too, I haven't been eating as healthily as I should. Do you think that could hurt? Honestly, I’ve dabbled in Ayurveda before, mainly for my gut problems, and it made me feel good, but I haven’t really explored it for hair issues. Why do I have hair fall like this? Is there a natural remedy or herb that can help? I’ve heard of things like amla or bhringraj — do they really work? It feels pretty demoralizing and I just want my normal hair back, ya know? Any advice would really help!

Hair fall can be distressing, but it’s essential to approach it as a signal from your body indicating an imbalance. Stress, as you noted, is a significant contributor, and when tied with dietary changes, it can further exacerbate hair fall.

In Ayurveda, hair fall often links to an imbalance in the doshas, especially Pitta. The excess heat from stress, along with possibly depleted nourishment from erratic eating habits, can aggravate Pitta, affecting hair health. It’s crucial to cool and calm both your mind and body.

Your diet indeed holds substantial influence over your hair’s health. Ayurveda suggests maintaining a Sattvic diet—rich in fresh fruits, leafy greens, nuts, and whole grains—to support robust hair growth. Foods high in iron and protein, like lentils and spinach, are crucial. Incorporate amla (Indian gooseberry) in your diet; its high Vitamin C content and antioxidant properties nourish hair and pacify Pitta.

Amla and bhringraj could be beneficial for your situation—these herbs are deeply revered in Ayurveda for strengthening hair follicles and improving scalp health. Apply bhringraj oil, massaging gently into the scalp, ideally before bedtime or a few hours before washing your hair. Bhringraj is said to improve blood circulation in the scalp, encouraging hair growth.

Stress management is equally vital. Engage in calming practices like meditation or yoga, particularly Pranayama, to bring balance and reduce stress levels. Regular physical activity releases endorphins, further reducing stress and supporting overall well-being.

Finally, avoid-over washing hair or using harsh chemical-laden shampoos. Opt for natural alternatives, like reetha (soapnut) or shikakai, which clean without stripping the scalp’s natural oils. Try using them twice a week instead of daily washing. Also, ensure you are hydrating well; optimal water intake aids in detoxification and maintaining a healthy scalp.

These practical, personalized steps should help restore the balance, protecting your hair and overall health. If hair fall persists or seems severe, seek professional consultation for more targeted diagnosis and care.

High hair fall can have multiple causes, and stress you’ve mentioned could be a significant factor. In Ayurveda, stress can increase your vata dosha, leading to imbalances in the body that reflect in hair loss. Additionally, your diet might not be supporting your hair health as well as it should be. Hair is a byproduct of bone (asthi dhatu) in the sapta dhatus chain, so imbalance there can be reflected in the hair’s condition.

First, reducing vata aggravating activities and foods may help. Avoid excessive stimulants like caffeinated beverages or junk foods, as they can further induce vata imbalance. Favor warm, cooked foods, healthy oils like sesame or ghee, and incorporate grounding grains like rice, and oats.

Herbs such as bhringraj and amla are well-regarded in Ayurveda for hair health. You could apply bhringraj oil to your scalp, massaging gently to increase circulation and reduce stress. Do this perhaps 2-3 times a week. Amla, rich in vitamin C, can be taken either as a fresh juice or dried powder mixed with warm water. Consume it daily, aiding overall body nourishment and boosting the immune system.

Regular practice of meditation or pranayama can also significantly reduce stress levels, calming the mind, and consequently supporting your hair health by keeping vata in check.

In case the situation continues unchanging or worsens, considering consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner alongside a conventional doctor can help rule out underlying health concerns. Adjusting lifestyle and dietary habits as per dosha balancing principles is recommended, ensuring a holistic approach to restore your hair vitality.
