what are the uses of multani mitti - #39259

Hannah

I am struggling with my skin lately, and my friend mentioned multani mitti – I think it's also called Fuller's Earth? Anyway, she swears by it for her skin problems. I’ve been dealing with some really annoying acne and oily patches for a while now, which just won’t go away no matter what I try. I even went to a dermatologist and they prescribed me some cream, but I feel like it made it worse even! I remember my grandma used to use multani mitti for her skin, and her skin always looked so fresh and youthful. I'm just really curious: what are the uses of multani mitti, and can it actually help with oily skin? Also, is it safe to use on active breakouts? Because I wouldn’t want to make things worse, you know? I've tried a bunch of different masks and treatments, but nothing seems to give me the results I want. Can you guys share some of your experiences? Like, how do you use multani mitti? Is it typically mixed with something else, or can it be used alone? I guess I'm just a bit overwhelmed and really want to get my skin back to normal before summer hits!

Multani mitti, commonly known as Fuller’s Earth, is indeed a well-regarded Ayurvedic remedy for various skin issues, including oily skin and acne. Its absorption properties make it particularly beneficial for drawing out impurities and excess oils, which could be helpful for your concerns.

When dealing with oily skin, multani mitti works by balancing the skin’s oil production and detoxifying the layers beneath. This can lead to the reduction of acne lesions and prevent future breakouts. It’s predominantly known for its cooling effects; in Ayurveda, this relates to pacifying excess Pitta, a dosha imbalance often linked to skin inflammations like acne.

If you’re considering using it, begin with a basic application. Mix multani mitti with some rose water to form a smooth paste. Rose water not only helps to hydrate but also contributes additional anti-inflammatory benefits. Apply this mixture evenly on the affected areas and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. This can be done about twice a week.

Now, about active breakouts: while multani mitti is generally safe to use, patches on extremely cystic or very inflamed acne should be approached cautiously. It might exacerbate irritation if the skin is too sensitive, so patch test it first or consult a dermatologist for severe conditions.

For enhanced benefits or to tailor the application to specific needs, you can mix multani mitti with other ingredients. For instance, combining it with a pinch of turmeric can add antiseptic qualities, whereas a bit of honey or aloe vera will provide additional moisture and soothing properties—just ensure any additions suit your skin type.

Finally, remember consistency matters. Using it occasionally won’t give significant changes; Maintaining a routine with multani mitti, alongside proper hydration and diet adjustments focusing on reducing oily and spicy foods, will eventually balance the skin over time. Be patient; natural remedies often require time to show their true effects, especially when combined with lifestyle adjustments.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
