how to increase hair growth and volume - #39472

Isaac

I am really struggling with my hair lately, and it's kinda freaking me out?? I used to have thick, luscious hair but now it feels like I'm losing so much of it! Like, I can actually see my scalp a bit more than I'd like...I’ve tried different shampoos and conditioners, but nothing seems to work!! My friend told me about Ayurvedic remedies, which I'm curious about. I've read a bit online about how to increase hair growth and volume, but it all seems a bit overwhelming. I don’t know if I should be focusing on oil massages or taking different herbs?? I keep hearing that things like bhringraj oil or fenugreek could be helpful, but is that true? What are the best ways how to increase hair growth and volume naturally without breaking the bank? What about diet changes? Like, should I be eating more certain foods or avoiding others? I feel like every time I try something new, my scalp gets itchy or flaky, Ugh!! It's just frustrating when all I want is healthy hair again... Has anyone had success with these methods? Would love any tips on how to increase hair growth and volume, like what's worked for you or what I should really avoid! Thanks in advance!

To address your concerns about hair growth and volume, Ayurveda offers several natural remedies that can be both effective and inexpensive. First, let’s focus on oil massages which play a crucial role in enhancing circulation to the scalp, strengthening hair roots, and providing nourishment. Bhringraj oil is highly recommended due to its known properties for promoting growth and preventing premature graying. Massaging your scalp twice a week with warm bhringraj oil can support the health of your hair over time.

Fenugreek, or “methi,” can be very beneficial too. Soak fenugreek seeds overnight, grind them into a paste, and apply it as a hair mask once a week to nourish the scalp and enhance thickness. It’s rich in protein, iron, and nicotinic acid, all of which improve hair health.

From a dietary perspective, focus on balancing your dosha - the body’s unique constitution. For hair health, including Dosha-balancing foods like whole grains, green leafy vegetables, nuts, and seeds in your diet can be very helpful. Make sure you’re getting enough proteins, as they are hair’s building blocks. Increase foods like legumes, quinoa, and chickpeas, which are rich in plant-based proteins, to support hair strength and growth.

Incorporate seasonal fruits, rich in antioxidants, such as amla (Indian gooseberry), which is excellent for hair health. Amla can be consumed as a fresh fruit or in powder form with a glass of warm water daily. Also, minimize processed foods, caffeine, and sugar to help maintain equilibrium in your body’s systems, including hair follicles.

If you’re experiencing itchiness and flakiness, consider that you might be over-washing or using products containing harsh chemicals. Stick to mild, natural shampoos and avoid washing your hair more than necessary—2-3 times a week should be adequate.

Make sure not to brush wet hair vigorously; it’s more vulnerable to breakage. Use a wide-toothed comb instead, and handle hair gently. Patience is crucial, as natural methods take time — but they’re most sustainable and effective in the long run.

If you’re aiming to boost hair growth and volume naturally, Ayurveda offers several approaches that can address the root causes. Hair loss and thinning can often be linked to imbalances in your doshas, particularly pitta, which can cause excess heat and stress on the hair follicles.

First, regular oil massages could certainly help. Consider using bhringraj oil or Brahmi oil. Warm the oil slightly, and massage it gently onto your scalp with your fingertips. This encourages blood circulation, strengthens hair roots, and soothes any aggravated pitta. Ideally, leave the oil on overnight once or twice weekly before rinsing it out with a mild shampoo.

Herbs like amla (Indian gooseberry) are highly regarded in both Siddha and mainstream Ayurveda for promoting hair health. Amla can be consumed daily as powder mixed with warm water or eat it as fresh fruit if available; it helps balance pitta and supports healthy hair regrowth.

Diet-wise, emphasize foods that boost kapha and nourish the body overall. Include plenty of leafy greens, nuts, and seeds, which provide essential fatty acids and zinc, supporting hair health. On the other hand, avoid excessive spicy, oily foods, and caffeine as they can increase pitta.

Fenugreeek seeds, known for their conditioning properties, can also be an at-home remedy. Soak a tablespoon of seeds overnight, grind them into a paste, and apply it as a hair mask weekly. This can help with both growth and dealing with scalp itchiness.

Remember, any changes might take time to manifest visible results. If your condition rapidly worsens or you notice excessive hair loss, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out underlying conditions.
