which hair style is best for hair growth - #39820

Ellie

I am really confused about my hair lately. I've been trying to grow it out, and I read that certain hair styles can really impact hair growth. Like, I've been keeping it in a bun most of the time because I thought it was protective, but I’m starting get worried that maybe that's not the best for hair growth? I also usually add some hair vitamins and oils to my routine, but I don't know if I’m doing everything right. I mean, I've heard people say that loose styles are better but how loose is loose enough? What about braids or ponytails? Sometimes I feel like those can be tight and might actually be pulling my hair out. Urggh, it's sooo frustrating! I wanna know, which hair style is best for hair growth? I’ve even thought about switching to something completely different, but I’m nervous itll be too drastic, ya know? Oh, and should my hair be constantly free-flowing or would some sort of controlled style like a braid be okay if it's done loosely? Trying to find the right balance here is super hard. Would love to hear from you all about what really works for hair growth!

When it comes to promoting hair growth, the styles you choose do indeed play a crucial role. In Ayurveda, hair is considered a byproduct of bone tissue, and maintaining its health involves ensuring proper nourishment and reducing tension on the scalp. Your routine of using oils and vitamins is a good start, but the way hair is styled can significantly impact growth.

Loose hairstyles generally prevent unnecessary tension, reducing the risk of hair breakage that comes with tight styles. When opting for braids or ponytails, ensure they are not pulling tightly at your scalp. A simple rule: if it feels tight, it’s too tight. The goal is to avoid traction alopecia, where constant strain leads to hair loss. This doesn’t mean you should keep hair loose all the time — just avoid excessive tension.

A bun can protect against environmental stressors, but again, it shouldn’t be too tight. A loose, low bun or a soft braid can offer the perfect balance. For braids, consider styles that are secured loosely—this includes regular three-strand braids you don’t need to braid too close to the scalp.

In Ayurveda, the practice of tying hair loosely is recommended to allow prana, or life energy, to flow. Tight styles can block this flow and also damage the hair roots. Ayurvedic oils like Bhringraj or Amla can promote healthy growth when applied regularly with gentle scalp massages, but letting your hair rest after applying these oils is crucial.

Wearing your hair down occasionally helps it breathe. Just ensure it’s not tangling or being exposed to harsh conditions. The key is to be gentle with your hair and avoid styles that cause too much stress. You might want a controlled style, like a loose braid, which prevents tangles without causing tension. Hair growth takes time and patience; combine gentle styling with good hair care, and your efforts will pay off.

If you’re considering a drastic style change, it might be beneficial to gradually ease into it. Trust your instincts with what feels good and remember, balance and care are essential.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
