I understand how distressing and uncomfortable chronic, spreading itching can be. ••Samprapti (Ayurvedic Pathogenesis) This condition is typically a Kapha-Pitta dominant Vyadhi with an underlying involvement of Vata that causes the condition to spread (Prasara): ••Kapha Dosha: Responsible for the intense itching (Kandu). ••Pitta Dosha: Causes the inflammatory response, potential redness, or a burning sensation. ••Vata Dosha: Responsible for dryness, the chronic nature of the condition, and its movement from the right leg to the left leg. Dushya (Affected Tissues): Tvacha (skin), Rakta (blood), and Lasika (lymph). 2. Line of Treatment (Chikitsa Sutra) Because the toxins (Ama) have accumulated over several months, a multi-pronged approach focusing on internal purification (Raktashodhana) and external soothing is required. A. Abhyantar Chikitsa (Internal Medications) To pacify the vitiated Doshas and purify the blood, the following classical formulations are highly effective: Raktashodhak & Kushthahara: ••Kaishore Guggulu or Amritadi Guggulu: 2 tablets twice a day after meals with warm water. These act as potent anti-inflammatory and blood-purifying agents. ••Mahamanjisthadi Kwath: 15–20 ml mixed with an equal quantity of lukewarm water, taken twice a day on an empty stomach. This is the gold standard for chronic skin conditions to cleanse the lymphatic system and blood. Kapha-Kanduhara (Anti-itching): ••Haridrakhanda: 1 teaspoon (approx. 3–5 grams) twice a day with warm water or warm milk. Haridra (Turmeric) is an excellent natural anti-allergic and Kandu-hara herb. Pitta-Shamana (Cooling): ••Gandhak Rasayan: 1 tablet (250 mg) twice a day after meals. It is a classical herbo-mineral formulation specifically indicated for chronic skin infections and stubborn itching. B. Bahya Chikitsa (External Applications) Never apply harsh chemical soaps or very hot water, as they aggravate Vata and Pitta, increasing the itch. ••Marichaadi Taila or Maha Marichadi Taila: Apply gently over the affected area twice a day. It contains black pepper and other herbs that specifically target Kapha-induced itching and fungal/bacterial overgrowth. ••Nalpamaradi Thailam or Jatyadi Taila: If there is significant redness, heat, or scaling, these oils will soothe the skin and heal the tissue barrier. ••Snana (Bathing): Wash the legs with water boiled with Neem leaves (Nimba) or Khadir (Acacia catechu). Both are excellent Kushthahara (skin-healing) herbs.
