In Ayurveda, very severe whole-body sweating (hyperhidrosis) in a 78-year-old is most commonly understood as a combination of: Pitta aggravation (excess heat in the body) Vata instability (poor regulation of sweating mechanism) Age-related tissue weakness (Dhatu kshaya) Sometimes “Rakta Pitta” tendency (heat in blood channels) Even if digestion feels normal, in elderly patients the regulatory control of sweat glands becomes unstable, so sweating becomes excessive and persistent. Ayurvedic Understanding of Your Condition 1. Pitta dominance (main factor) Pitta controls: body temperature sweat production metabolic heat When aggravated → continuous sweating without clear trigger 2. Vata involvement (regulation failure) Vata controls: nervous system autonomic balance sweating control When disturbed in old age → overactive or irregular sweating 3. Age factor (important) At 78: tissues (dhatus) are weaker cooling system becomes unstable dehydration risk increases easily So treatment must be very gentle and cooling + strengthening Ayurvedic Treatment Approach Treatment has 3 goals: Cool excess Pitta Stabilize Vata (nervous regulation) Strengthen tissues (Rasayana therapy) Internal Medicines (Ayurvedic classical approach) 1. Praval Pishti Strong natural coolant (calcium-based) Reduces body heat and sweating Safe in elderly in small dose Core medicine for your condition 2. Sutshekhar Ras Balances Pitta and internal heat Helps in unexplained sweating, heat sensations Supports heart and digestion without increasing heat 3. Guduchi (Giloy) Best Vata–Pitta balancing herb Reduces chronic internal inflammation and heat Supports immunity and long-term stability 4. Amla (Amalaki) Natural Rasayana (rejuvenator) Strong cooling effect Helps regulate sweat and tissue weakness 5. Usheerasava or Chandanasava Classical formulations for excessive sweating Cooling effect on blood and skin channels Very useful in chronic whole-body sweating Simple Practical Regimen (Elderly-Friendly) Morning Amla powder with lukewarm water OR Giloy juice (if available and tolerated) After meals Sutshekhar Ras (small dose) Twice daily (if prescribed) Praval Pishti Dietary Guidelines (VERY important) Reduce internal heat Coconut water (if suitable) Cucumber, bottle gourd, pumpkin Rice, moong dal khichdi Pomegranate Buttermilk with roasted cumin Strictly avoid Spicy food Fried food Alcohol / smoking (if any) Excess tea or coffee Sour foods (pickle, vinegar, fermented items) Hot climate exposure when possible Lifestyle Advice (important in your age) Stay in cool, airy environment Wear loose cotton clothes only Avoid direct sun exposure Take rest during midday Maintain hydration (small frequent sips of water) Gentle breathing only (no intense exercise)

At 78 years of age, new or worsening generalized sweating all over the body should not automatically be assumed to be primary hyperhidrosis. It is important to rule out causes such as thyroid disorders, infections, low blood sugar episodes, heart conditions, medication effects, or other medical illnesses. —From an Ayurvedic perspective, excessive sweating (Atisweda) is often associated with aggravated Pitta and weakness of the body’s heat-regulating mechanisms. ----rx 1. Praval Pishti – 125 mg twice daily after meals with rose water or plain water. 2. Kamdudha Ras (Muktiyukta) – 1 tablet twice daily after meals. 3. Giloy Satva – 250 mg twice daily with water. 4. Usheerasava – 15 ml with equal water after lunch and dinner. ----Diet & Lifestyle Drink room-temperature water; avoid very hot drinks. Reduce excessive chili, fried foods, pickles, and alcohol if taken. Include pomegranate, amla, coconut water, cucumber, and bottle gourd. Wear loose cotton clothing. Avoid prolonged exposure to heat and direct sunlight. ----Important Note Because your sweating is very severe, constant, and involves the whole body, I would strongly recommend checking: Thyroid function (TSH, T3, T4) Fasting blood sugar/HbA1c Complete blood count (CBC) Blood pressure and cardiac evaluation

Namaste. It is a pleasure to assist you. In Ayurveda, excessive sweating, known as Sweda Atiyoga or Swedadhikya is often seen as an imbalance of the Pitta Dosha. When Pitta becomes aggravated, it increases the internal heat of the body, leading to excessive perspiration. At 78 years of age, our goal is to balance this heat while supporting your overall vitality (Ojas) without placing undue strain on your system. Ayurvedic Internal Support Chandan (Sandalwood):Known for its potent cooling properties, Chandan helps pacify Pitta. Taking a small dose of Chandan Churna(powder) mixed with honey or rose water (Gulab Jal) can help reduce internal heat. Amla (Indian Gooseberry): A cooling Rasayana (rejuvenator). Amla is excellent for balancing Pitta and strengthening the body’s tissues. You may consume it in the form of Amla Murabba or fresh juice diluted with water. Praval Pishti: This is a traditional Ayurvedic preparation made from coral, which is highly effective in cooling the body and reducing excessive sweating and palpitations associated with heat. Herbal Teas: Sipping on tea made from Coriander seeds (Dhania) or Fennel seeds (Saunf) throughout the day provides a mild, cooling effect on the digestive fire (Agni). Daily Lifestyle Practices for Balance Beyond internal support, incorporating these habits will help manage your condition effectively and safely: Bath Daily Taking a shower or bath daily is compulsory for controlling the quantity of bacteria present on the skin which further induces sweating. Clean your body especially areas under the arms and between the toes wisely by using a good quality towel. Wait A While Between Showering And Dressing After takin shower, give some time to your body for soaking water and becoming dry before wearing clothes. Doing this is more important if you bath with hot water or living in an area of humid climate. Allowing some time to your body will help you in preventing sweat in underarms and all other body parts. Choose Appropriate Shoes And Socks Try to wear shoes and socks made up of natural materials such as leather. This will help you in prevention of sweating in feet and allow your feet to breathe. For athletes or more active persons, wearing moisture wicking athletic socks will be beneficial. Change Socks Regularly Changing socks everyday is necessary for maintaining good health of your feet and prevents infections due to excess sweating. Wear socks after drying your feet properly and try to use foot powders which help in absorbing sweat. Wear Suitable Clothes Make sure to wear suitable clothes as per the body. Avoid wearing tight clothes that tightens below area of your arms and shows underarm stains on the shirt. Tight fitted clothes make you sweat heavily. So, always try to wear fabrics which are breathable and little loosen to your body. This will help your body, especially your underarms to take air and prevent body parts from sweating and stain on your clothes. Prevent Sweat Inducing Foods Diet is a major factor deciding the amount of sweat production. Some foods induce sweating while some help in reducing sweat. If you are suffering from a condition of heavy sweating, then improve your diet plan and prevent consumption of sweat inducing foods. These foods are very poor in fiber content and force your digestive system to do excess work for converting food into energy. Consumption of high sodium diet means your body will excrete out all sodium content by inducing sweat and urine output. While eating highly fatty foods makes your body warm as it processes the breakdown of the fat. So, it is advised to avoid eating sweat inducing foods as much as possible, these foods are: Processed foods, Hot and spicy foods, Garlic, Onion, Ice cream, Alcohol, Caffeine. Consume Foods Which Can Reduce Sweat Some foods are very helpful in reducing the heavy sweat produced by the body and also calm down the overactive sweat glands. Including some foods in your diet which are high in water content are helpful to prevent overstimulation of nervous system and sweat glands. These include: Calcium rich foods (cheese, dairy), vegetables and fruits (spinach, watermelon, red cabbage, eggplant, bell pepper, cauliflower, broccoli, grapes, cantaloupe), Almonds, Whey, Bananas, Olive oil, Green tea, Oats, and Sweet potatoes. Do Meditation Adopt relaxation techniques in daily lifestyle such as meditation and yoga. By doing meditation regularly, stress will be controlled which is a sweat triggering factor. Try to do meditation daily for at least 20 minutes. Drink Plenty Of Water Consuming large quantities of water and consuming foods which are rich in water content will help your body to stay cool and maintain normal temperature inside of the body. Stop Smoking The nicotine you inhale during smoking raises the temperature of the body, fastens the heart beats and makes the sweat glands overactive. Smoking is also associated with many health disorders such as cancer, stained teeth and bad breath. So, in order to decrease excess sweating and to improve overall body health, quit smoking as soon as you can.

••In Ayurveda, excessive sweating is known as Atisweda (अतिस्वेद). It is primarily considered a disorder of Pitta Dosha and Meda Dhatu (fat tissue), where the body’s internal heat and fluid metabolic channels (Swedavaha Srotas) become aggravated. Given your age (78 years), the treatment approach must be gentle, cooling, and balancing, completely avoiding any harsh or drastic therapies, and focusing entirely on safe, oral Ayurvedic medicines. Here is a comprehensive, clinically oriented Ayurvedic protocol to help control hyperhidrosis: 1. Primary Oral Medicines (Chikitsa) ••Chandanasava: •Dosage: 15 to 20 ml with an equal quantity of lukewarm water, twice a day, after meals. •Why it works: It is a classical fermented liquid preparation with a base of Sandalwood (Chandan). It is an excellent Pitta-shamak (Pitta pacifier), cools the body internally, and significantly reduces excessive sweating and body odor. ••Kamadhudha Ras (Plain): •Dosage: 1 tablet (125 mg to 250 mg) twice a day, before meals, preferably with a teaspoon of honey or water. •Why it works: This is a potent Ayurvedic calcium-mineral formulation that neutralizes internal heat, calms the nervous system, and regulates the body’s thermostat mechanism without causing any digestive distress. ••Praval Pishti: •Dosage: 250 mg twice a day, mixed with a little bit of clarified butter (Ghee) or honey. •Why it works: Prepared from coral, it is naturally cooling and specifically targeted towards stabilizing the Swedavaha Srotas (sweat channels). 2. Single Herb Home Remedies If you prefer simple herbal powders (Churna), the following are highly safe and effective for senior citizens: ••Ushira (Vetiver / Khus): Infuse 1 teaspoon of Ushira powder in a glass of water overnight. Strain and drink it the next morning. It is a renowned natural coolant. ••Amalaki Churna (Indian Gooseberry): Take 1/2 teaspoon of Amla powder with water twice a day. Amla is a rare herb that is highly cooling (Sheeta Virya) but does not disturb the digestive fire (Agni), making it ideal for your age. 3. Dietary Adjustments (Ahara) Medicines work best when not countered by the diet. Please try to incorporate these adjustments: ••Include: Sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes. Bottle gourd (Lauki), bitter gourd (Karela), pomegranate, soaked raisins, and cucumber help cool the system. ••Avoid: Excessively salty, spicy, sour, and fermented foods (like pickles, curd, and heavy spices), as they directly flare up Pitta and increase sweat production.
