I am really struggling with constipation lately and it's just been awful. I’ve tried a few things like increasing my fiber intake and drinking more water, but nothing seems to work. A friend of mine mentioned how to take ghee for constipation, saying it's helped her in the past, but I’m kinda unsure how to go about it. Should I take it plain? Or mix it with something? I read somewhere that taking ghee helps with digestion and can really ease things up, but like, how much should I actually be taking? I’m worried I might overdo it or not take enough to actually make a difference. Also, can I use it in cooking instead of just, you know, eating it straight? One time, I melted some ghee into warm water and tried it out, but it didn’t do much for me – maybe I did it wrong? I guess I’m just looking for clearer advice on how to take ghee for constipation because all this guesswork is frustrating. If anyone has had success, I’d love to hear your methods or any tips you might have! Thanks!!

Taking ghee as a natural remedy for constipation is indeed a practice rooted in Ayurveda, and it can be quite effective if done correctly. Firstly, ghee is known to lubricate the digestive tract and balance Vata dosha, which is often aggravated in cases of constipation. Here’s how you can incorporate ghee properly.

To start, try consuming ghee on an empty stomach in the morning. Mix one teaspoon of ghee with a glass (around 150 ml) of warm water or warm milk. Ensure the water or milk is lukewarm, neither too hot nor too cold, to aid in digestion. Drinking this in the morning can help stimulate your digestive system and ease bowel movements.

If you haven’t seen results with the ghee in warm water, you might adjust the quantity to about 1.5 teaspoons, but don’t increase significantly without consulting with a healthcare provider. Ghee is rich, and while beneficial, consuming too much might upset other doshas or lead to digestive discomfort.

Yes, it is entirely okay to use ghee in cooking as well. However, for therapeutic purposes to specifically address constipation, direct consumption on an empty stomach is generally recommended. Using it in cooking imparts nutritious benefits but may not specifically target constipation with the same efficacy.

Also, consider if your digestive fire, or Agni, is low. If so, adding a pinch of ginger or turmeric to meals may enhance digestion.
