Hepatitis B leading to liver cirrhosis is a serious condition requiring comprehensive management. While Ayurveda may assist in managing symptoms and improving quality of life, it is not a replacement for conventional medical care, so consultation with a hepatologist is essential.
Bhumi Amla (Phyllanthus niruri) is known in Ayurveda for its hepatoprotective properties. It could potentially aid in reducing symptoms related to liver issues, including ascites, through its action in supporting liver functions and balancing pitta dosha. Consider using Bhumi Amla churna (powder) — about 1-3 gm twice daily, mixed with water or honey, following the advice of an Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure its suitability for your specific condition and constitution.
Your liver function tests indicate active liver inflammation, so monitor these levels regularly. In addition to Bhumi Amla, incorporate dietary and lifestyle changes to support liver health. Focus on a balanced diet that avoids spicy, oily, and heavy foods, which can aggravate pitta. Include light and fibrous foods like cooked vegetables, leafy greens, and whole grains to aid digestion and support liver function.
Hydration is crucial, but with ascites, fluid intake must be monitored. Ask a doctor about appropriate fluid restrictions. Limit salt intake as it can exacerbate fluid retention. Also, avoid alcohol and smoking entirely.
Engage in gentle exercises such as yoga, focusing on asanas that support digestion and circulation, without straining the body. Pranayama (breathing exercises) can also promote detoxification and stress reduction.
While Ayurveda provides supportive care, prioritize regular medical monitoring to address complications. Immediate intervention may be necessary if symptoms worsen, or new issues arise. Seek out an integrative approach that combines Ayurvedic care with allopathic treatments for optimal outcomes.
