can we take shilajit empty stomach - #43292

Emma

I am really confused about somethin I’ve read about shilajit lately. Like, can we take shilajit empty stomach? I’ve been feeling super sluggish for a while, and a friend suggested trying shilajit to boost my energy levels. I looked it up and found its praised for many health benefits, but then I saw different opinions on timing. Some say it's best on an empty stomach, while others say that's not good. Last week, I tried it first thing in the morning, mixed with warm water, but I felt a little queasy afterwards. 😵 I was wondering if I maybe did it wrong or if it was too strong for me. I have this weird pattern where I often feel nauseous if I take something without eating beforehand. Is there a specific way i'm suppose to take shilajit? Or is it really okay to just have it on an empty stomach? I’m just looking for some guidance here, because I really want to give this a fair shot. Plus, I’ve noticed I can't focus and my energy dips by noon, which isn’t helping my work life at all. Any insights from you all would be super helpful! Am i doing something wrong?

The use of shilajit in Ayurvedic practice is indeed recognized for its rejuvenative and energizing properties. It is often recommended as an effective Rasayana, believed to improve vitality and vigor. However, as with many powerful herbs and substances in Ayurveda, the timing and method of ingestion can greatly affect its impact.

Taking shilajit on an empty stomach is a common practice, as it generally ensures better absorption. But since you’ve experienced queasiness, consuming it this way might not be ideal for you considering the nausea you mentioned. Ayurvedic principles suggest tailoring consumption according to individual constitution (prakriti) and current health status, which hints you may need to adjust how you take it.

Try taking shilajit after food to see if it reduces the queasiness. Consider a light meal or a snack that’s easy to digest before you ingest shilajit again. Start with a smaller dosage, mix it with warm water or milk to help buffer your stomach. This approach helps moderate it’s potency while still offering sustained energy levels.

It’s also important to understand your digestive fire, or Agni, plays a significant role. If your Agni is weak, taking potent substances like shilajit might be too intense on an empty stomach. To enhance your digestive capacity, integrate light Ayurvedic herbs like ginger in your diet, which can help fortify Agni.

Incorporate other gentle energizers in your routine too, such as breathing exercises (pranayama), maintaining consistent meal timing, and adequate hydration. If persistent issues continue, consulting a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to personalize the regimen based on your unique doshic balance could be very beneficial.

Considering the energy dips by noon that you’re experiencing, make sure your breakfast is nourishing enough to last through the morning—think whole grains and nuts. Patience is key with Ayurvedic treatments, as they work holistically, addressing root processes, which need time.

Taking shilajit on an empty stomach is often recommended in Ayurvedic tradition because it allows for optimum absorption into the body, which can amplify its energizing and nourishing benefits. However, individual reactions can vary greatly based on one’s constitution or prakriti, as well as any underlying imbalances among the doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Feeling queasy might suggest that your body might not be aligning well with its intake on an empty stomach, perhaps due to an underlying digestive sensitivity or imbalance in your agni, your digestive fire.

Given your experience of queasiness and your general sluggish feeling, for now I recommend you try taking shilajit after a light meal or small snack, ideally something warm and grounding, like a soup or a porridge. This could help buffer any potential irritation to the stomach lining. Starting with a smaller dose than usual, around a pea-sized portion mixed in warm water or milk, can also be gentler on your system.

It’s also essential to ensure the quality and purity of the shilajit you’re using. Since you’ve been feeling energy dips, combining shilajit with supportive lifestyle practices—such as regular light exercise, adequate hydration, and a tailored diet that complements your dosha constitution—can be very beneficial.

Please keep in mind that while shilajit can aid in energy improvement by enhancing the body’s natural functions and keeping the nadis or energy channels clear, sustained low energy and focus challenges might need a deeper examination, like assessing your current diet, sleep patterns, and stress levels. If this sluggishness persists despite adjustments, consulting with a healthcare professional would be wise to rule out any other conditions.
