how to take shatavari powder - #44432

Violet

I am trying to figure out how to take shatavari powder, and honestly, I'm kind of confused. A few months ago, I felt super tired all the time, and after some research, I came across shatavari. My friend who's into Ayurveda recommended it, mentioned it can really help with energy and even hormonal balance. I bought some shatavari powder, but I’m not sure if I'm using it right. Some sources say to mix it in water, others say milk, and then some suggest adding honey. Like, do I need to take it with meals or, what about before bed? The package just says “take it daily” but nothing really helpful on specifics! I even tried mixing it in my morning smoothie once, but the taste was, I don't know, not great at all… My digestion’s been a bit off lately too—could shatavari powder help with that? I’m kinda getting into this Ayurvedic thing, but sometimes it feels overwhelming ya know? Any advice on how to take shatavari powder? How much should I start with, and are there any side effects I should look out for? Would love input from you guys! Thanks!!!

Shatavari is a wonderful herb with a ton of applications in Ayurveda. It can help with energy, support hormonal balance and yes, it can also be beneficial for digestion when used properly. In Ayurveda, shatavari is considered a ‘rasayana’—meaning, it helps nourish and rejuvenate. To make the best out of shatavari powder, there’s a practical ways to incorporate it into your daily routine.

For starters, the usual dosage is about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of shatavari powder once or twice a day. It’s best to start with a smaller amount to see how your body reacts, since you mentioned your digestive issues. Mix the powder with a cup of warm milk, as the fats in milk can help in the absorption of the herb’s properties. If you’re vegan or lactose intolerant, use plant-based milks like almond or coconut milk but try to choose the unsweetened verisons.

If taken with milk, shatavari can be consumed preferably in the evening, maybe an hour before bedtime, as it can help promote restful sleep and balance your hormones overnight. If you’re not a fan of the taste, you can add a teaspoon of honey to sweeten it a bit.

In the morning, you can repeat this method, but it’s useful to do it on an empty stomach if possible to enhance absorption. Remember, the key to dosage and timing depends on your dosha constitution as well; vata and pitta people usually benefit more from this in the morning empty stomach, while kaphas might do better in the evening.

As for side effects, they’re generaly rare, but some may have gastrointestinal upset initially—bloating or gas, usually easing off as your body adjusts. Also, if you are taking medications, speak to a health professionals to avoid potential interactions. Taking a break after 3 months, can also be beneficial to check how you’re feeling and adjust the course if needed.
