Doctors' responses

Experiencing swelling in your feet after having lunch during Ekadashi fast, particularly when you had sabudana kichadi with curd, can be due to a combination of factors, possibly accentuated by your recent bout with fever and the currently persistng weakness. In Ayurveda, this condition could be seen in context of dosha imbalances, which may highlighted by your recent illness. Let’s explore these possibilities.

Firstly, considering the recent fever and existing weakness, your body’s agni, or digestive fire, might be compromised. A weakened agni can lead to improper digestion and absorption, causing a buildup of ama, or toxins, in the body. This accumulation, particularly in Kapha patients, might contribute to fluid retention and subsequent swelling in extremities like feet,

Sabudana is predominantly Kapha increasing, especially when consumed with curd. Both tend to be heavy, possibly leading to a Kapha imbalance. In addition, if you had a short nap after eating, this can further slow down digestion, promoting Kapha and causing potential fluid retention, evident as swelling.

To address this, consider sipping on warm water through out the day to stimulate digestion and help in reducing swelling. Ginger or cinnamon teas can also help in stimulating agni. Avoid consuming heavy, oily or cold foods - go for light, warm, and easily digestible meals instead. Incorporating fenugreek seeds soaked in water overnight, then consumed on an empty stomach, can help reduce swelling by balancing Vata and Kapha doshas.

Since swelling in feet can sometimes indicate other underlying health concern, if symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare professional for a comprehensive examination. This will ensure that serious conditions is not overlooked while addressing the symptoms.

Remember these Ayurvedic recommendations should always be balanced with medical advice when necessary, and observing for severity of your symptoms is key.
