Doctors' responses

At age 17 the potential for reshaping the bony structure of the skull significantly diminishes compared to early childhood years. The cranial bones have largely fused, reducing flexibility. However, from an Ayurvedic perspective, while structural changes may be limited, it’s possible to work on improving the overall balance and health of her body, which can sometimes subtly influence posture and tension patterns that may affect the head’s appearance.

One aspect to consider is her overall posture and muscle balance in the neck and shoulders, which might give the illusion of a change in head shape. Encourage her to engage in regular yoga practice, focusing on postures that enhance spinal alignment and relieve tension in the neck and shoulders. Simple poses, like Tadasana (Mountain Pose) and Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), can support her posture. Regularly practicing these in a mindful and attentive manner can assists in aligning the upper body properly.

From a dietary stance, an emphasis on a balanced diet tailored to her prakriti (constitution) could support her overall health. If she has a Vata constitution, ensure her diet is grounding, with warm, cooked meals. For Pitta, cooling foods like cucumbers and melons are advisable, and for Kapha, light and spicy foods can be beneficial.

Integrating meditation or pranayama (breathing excercises) to ensure emotional balance and mental relaxation could be useful as well—promoting stress reduction can alleviate unnecessary tension in the upper body and head area over time.

While achieving a significantly rounded head shape may not be feasible at this stage, these holistic approaches help in enhancing her overall well-being. If structural concerns persist or cause psychological discomfort, consulting an orthopedic specialist might provide further clarity and options.
