Doctors' responses

Combining your existing allopathic medications with Ayurvedic practices can be supportive, but careful consideration is needed for long-term use. Continued use of your current medications should be done under the guidance of your allopathic doctor, as they are familiar with your specific condition and the potential for side effects or interactions related to long-term use.

For diabetic neuropathy and to complement your current regimen, incorporating some Ayurvedic practices might be helpful. Consider starting with dietary changes: focus on a Kapha-pacifying diet that avoids heavy, oily, and excessively sweet foods, as they can aggravate Kapha dosha, often implicated in diabetes. Keep meals warm, light, and easily digestible, incorporating spices like turmeric, fenugreek, and ginger which help regulate digestive fire (agni) and support metabolism.

For your neuropathy, make use of herbs such as Ashwagandha and Brahmi due to their rejuvenating properties, both of which support the nervous system. You can consider taking these in powder form, about 1 tsp with warm water, once daily after consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner to prevent any herb-drug interactions with your allopathy medicines.

Meanwhile, regular practice of Pranayama and gentle yoga can help manage both nerve pain and sciatica by improving circulation and reducing stress levels. Poses such as Pawanmuktasana and Bhujangasana may specifically relieve sciatica pressure. Ensure your regimen is not too intense and fits within your comfort level to avoid any strain.

Since diabetic neuropathy can lead to foot ulcers, regularly check your feet for any cuts or sores, keeping them clean and moisturized. This preventative care is essential. Stay well hydrated, as it aids in flushing out toxins and maintains circulation. Always coordinate changes with your healthcare providers to ensure compatibility with current treatments.
