How to treat OCD, anxiety, and memory issues in a 50-year-old with a focus on personal and professional life? - #56315

I am 50 plus and have not established myself in my personal and professional life. I was preoccupied with my appearance especially my hair which never fell in place. It became a obsession later which transferred to handwashing ocd and masturbation also. I never socialised in my college days because I was unhappy with the way I appeared especially my hair. This created problems in my professional and personal life. It took me 6 years to pass my studies instead of 3 years. I neglected my studies and also developed suicidal tendencies. Wherever I worked though for a few years my colleagues and staff used to tell bahut sochta hai. I used to think about my appearance especially my hair wherever I used to work. I couldn't perform on the job because of this issue and ocd handwashing issue. I used to do whatever pleased me and did few wrong things too which affected me and my family. I regret doing the wrong things. I got married lately and my wife supports me. I also suffer from premature ejaculation. I had approached a renowned psychiatrist and he diagnosed me with overthinking, fog mind, disturbed sleep, ADHD and ocd, preoccupied with various thoughts like my appearance, tempted to hand washing after getting my hands soiled etc. I have a very very poor memory and concentration. I do not know what to do in life. My aim is to feel light headed, clarity of mind, no confusion and good memory. I want medicine to fix my mind. I would be glad if I get a remedy. I wish to take very very few medicines. If possible you may suggest me 2 to 3 different combination of medicines so that I can choose the one which fits me. I would prefer tablets, capsules wherever possible

Your history suggests a long-standing pattern of obsessive thinking (OCD traits), anxiety, poor attention/concentration, mental fatigue, disturbed sleep, low confidence, and depressive features. The fact that you remained preoccupied with your appearance for years and later developed hand-washing compulsions fits well with an OCD spectrum condition. The good news is that your insight is intact, you have family support, and improvement is possible even after many years. –From an Ayurvedic perspective, this appears to be a Vata-Predominant Manovaha Srotas disturbance with Chinta (excessive worry), Smriti Daurbalya (poor memory), Nidra Vaigunya (sleep disturbance), and Manasika Kapha depletion causing lack of stability and confidence. ----For mental clarity, memory, overthinking, sleep 1) Manasmitra Vatakam – 1 tablet at bedtime with warm milk/water. 2) Brahmi Vati (Gold-free) – 1 tablet twice daily after food. 3) anu taila 2 drops in each nostril morning 4) Brahmi taila for head message –Continue for 8 weeks. ----Morning 20–30 minutes brisk walk. 10 minutes deep breathing (Anulom-Vilom). Exposure to sunlight. Mental Exercise Whenever appearance, hair, or hand-washing thoughts arise: Label them: “This is an OCD thought, not reality.” Do not argue with the thought. Bring attention back to the present task. This practice is extremely important. Diet Avoid excessive tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol. Reduce late-night mobile use. Regular meal timings. Include soaked almonds, walnuts, ghee in moderation.

Your symptoms suggest OCD, overthinking, poor concentration, disturbed sleep, and mental fatigue. Take Option 1 (Mind calming & memory) • Brahmi Vati – 1 tablet twice daily after food • Ashwagandha 500 mg – 1 capsule at bedtime Option 2 (Focus & concentration) • Mentat – 2 tablets twice daily after food • Ashwagandha 500 mg – 1 capsule at bedtime Option 3 (Anxiety, sleep & mental clarity) • Saraswatarishta 15 ml + equal water after dinner • Brahmi Vati – 1 tablet twice daily For premature ejaculation • Ashwagandha 500 mg – 1 capsule twice daily after food Continue your psychiatrist’s treatment regularly, as OCD and persistent overthinking usually respond best to a combination of medication, therapy, and lifestyle measures.

••First, I want to acknowledge the immense courage it takes to share this. Carrying decades of silent struggle with your appearance, OCD, and the deep regret of how it affected your career and family is an incredibly heavy burden. It is completely understandable that you feel exhausted and are searching for clarity and a sense of lightness in your mind. ••As an Ayurvedic professional, I look at your symptoms—the hyper-fixation on hair, the racing thoughts, handwashing compulsions, forgetfulness, brain fog, premature ejaculation, and disturbed sleep—and see a classic, profound manifestation of severely aggravated Vata Dosha, specifically affecting the Mano Vaha Srotas (the channels of the mind) and Majja Dhatu (nervous tissue). When Vata is out of balance, the mind becomes like a stormy wind: restless, hyper-focused on trivial things, anxious, and easily fatigued, leading to poor retention and concentration. ••Option 1:-The Neuro-Protective & Brain Fog Focus This combination heavily targets cognitive fatigue, memory deficits, and the Vata-induced “foggy mind” while gently calming compulsive tendencies. Mentat Tablet (Himalaya) / Brahmi Vati •Dosage: 1 to 2 tablets twice a day, after meals with warm water. •Why it helps: Contains Brahmi and Shankhapushpi, which act as Medhya (intellect promoters). They modulate cholinergic activity to improve memory, reduce overthinking (Chinta), and calm the hyperactive ADHD mind. ••Ashwagandha Capsule (Standardized Extract) •Dosage: 1 capsule twice a day, after meals with warm milk or water. •Why it helps: An incredible adaptogen that lowers cortisol, stabilizes the nervous system, stabilizes sleep, and acts as a Shukra Stambhana to naturally help address premature ejaculation by reducing performance anxiety. Option 2: The Deep Anxiolytic & OCD/Compulsion Focus This protocol focuses heavily on the severe Vata imbalance causing obsessive-compulsive behaviors, handwashing triggers, and deep-seated anxiety. ••Saraswatarishta Tablet / Saraswata Churna Tablets •Dosage: 1 to 2 tablets twice a day after meals. •Why it helps: A traditional formulation specifically indicated for Smriti Mandya (poor memory) and Manovikara (mental disorders). It brings that specific “light-headed clarity” and sharpness you are looking for. ••Tagara Capsule (Himalaya System / Organic India) •Dosage: 1 capsule 1 hour before bedtime with warm water. •Why it helps: Valeriana wallichii (Tagara) is highly effective for calming a racing mind, reducing nighttime overthinking, and establishing a healthy sleep architecture without daytime drowsiness. Option 3: The Holistic Mind-Body Synergy (Herbo-Mineral) A potent, traditional approach combining deep mind-calming herbs with physical rejuvenation. ••Smriti Sagar Ras •Dosage: 1 tablet twice a day, strictly under medical supervision, traditionally co-administered with a small lick of ghee or honey after food. •Why it helps: A classical Ayurvedic herbo-mineral tablet specifically indicated for memory loss, lack of concentration, and neurological imbalances. It pierces through deep brain fog. •Manasamitra Vati •Dosage: 1 tablet twice a day (or 1 at night). •Why it helps: A premium, comprehensive psychiatric formulation in Ayurveda. It balances all three Doshas in the brain, directly reducing the severity of obsessive thoughts (OCD triggers) and emotional instability. Crucial Dietary & Lifestyle Supports (The Foundation) Medicines can only do half the work if the physical body remains dry and erratic. To ground Vata: ••Internal Oleation (Snehana): Consume 1 teaspoon of pure A2 Cow’s Ghee or Brahmi Ghrita with warm water or mixed into your warm dinner daily. Ghee crosses the blood-brain barrier and is the finest antidote to the “dryness” that causes poor memory and ADHD-like symptoms. ••External Calming (Shiroabhyanga): Massage 5–10 drops of Ksheerabala Thailam or Brahmi Thailam onto your scalp and the soles of your feet every night before bed. This directly sedates the hyperactive cranial nerves. ••Diet: Avoid cold, dry, stale, or gaseous foods (like deep-fried snacks, excessive caffeine, or raw salads). Eat warm, moist, freshly cooked meals with adequate healthy fats.

Hello, Along with Ayurveda medicines you need to consider lifestyle changes on a regular basis,on a serious note. Lifestyle- 1. Please take one on one session on yogasana-pranayama by an experienced yoga teacher. Once the teacher is confident enough that, you can practice the yogasana-pranayama on your own, start practicing on your own regularly, without a break. 2. Let there be a gap of 2 hours between dinner and going to bed. 3. Avoid usage of electronic gadgets one hour before going to bed, Ayurveda medicines: 1. Kalyanaka ghritham capsules(AVP) 2----0—2 in the morning in empty stomach;in the night at bed time For 120 days. Take care, kind regards.
