Doctors' responses

Premature greying of hair, especially when it appears suddenly, can be quite concerning. In Ayurveda, this condition is generally associated with a Pitta imbalance, particularly when it affects the temporal region, an area often linked to stress-related issues.

Firstly, assessing daily diet and lifestyle can yield insights. Consuming large amounts of spicy, fried, or processed foods can aggravate Pitta dosha, potentially leading to greying. Consider reducing such consumption and incorporating cooling foods such as cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Also increase intake of Omega-3 fatty acids found in flaxseeds and walnuts, which may contribute to healthier hair.

It is crucial to focus on the intake of Tridoshic herbs like Amla (Indian Gooseberry) — known for its rejuvenating properties for hair. You may take Amla as a juice or a supplement. Taking a teaspoon of Triphala powder with warm water before bedtime can help detoxify the system and balance doshas.

Practice relaxing techniques such as Pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation daily to help manage stress, which can exacerbate the condition. This, combined with a consistent sleep schedule, ensuring 7-8 hrs of restful sleep, can aid overall balance.

For applying externally, a hair massage once or twice a week with Bhringraj oil, mixed with coconut or sesame oil, can nourish the scalp and may reduce the severity of greying. Warm the oil before applying gently on the scalp in a circular motion tp improve circulation.

If these changes don’t lead to improvement, consulting with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized assessment could further help address any underlying imbalances.
