Persistent gut issues, such as heartburn and constipation, especially post-surgery, need careful attention to restore balance. Ayurveda views these symptoms as possible signs of an imbalance in the Pitta and Vata doshas. To address these, it’s crucial to enhance your digestive fire (agni) and ensure your body’s natural rhythms are in tune.

Firstly, consider adjusting your diet to support digestion. Incorporate warm, cooked foods that are easy to digest like soups and stews. Favor foods like well-cooked rice, lentils, and ghee. Avoid cold, raw, or processed foods as they can aggravate your condition. Sip on warm water throughout the day to help stimulate digestion and support regularity. Including a teaspoon of roasted fennel seeds after meals may also assist in relieving heartburn and enhancing digestion.

Further, Triphala powder is frequently recommended in Ayurveda for its balancing effect on the doshas and support for regular bowel movements. A teaspoon mixed with warm water at night can be particularly beneficial for constipation. If heartburn is a significant issue, amalaki (Emblica officinalis) alone might be more suitable, as it pacifies Pitta and cools the digestive system.

Incorporate Ayurvedic self-care practices like regular Abhyanga (oil massage) with warm sesame oil to ground Vata and calm your system. Yoga and pranayama, especially forward folds and gentle breathing exercises, can significantly enhance digestive health and relieve stress, which often exacerbates digestive issues.

Consult with a qualified healthcare provider or an Ayurvedic practitioner who can adjust these suggestions to align with your particular medical history and condition severity is essential. While Ayurveda can support chronic issues like this, never hesitate to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms worsen or new, alarming signs develop, especially following multiple surgeries.
