••Pranam. It is completely understandable to feel frustrated when you are maintaining a clean diet—avoiding junk food entirely—and yet still suffering from debilitating acidity and acid regurgitation (Amla Pitta or Urdhvaga Amla Pitta with Kanthadaha). ••Here is a clinical perspective on why this is happening despite your clean diet, and how you should systematically use Kamdudha Ras and manage this condition. 1. Why Acidity Occurs Without Junk Food In Ayurveda, Amla Pitta isn’t just caused by “outside junk.” It is caused by anything that increases the Drava (liquid) and Amla (sour) qualities of Pitta. If you are eating healthy, the culprit might be: •Adhyashana / Vishamashana: Eating before the previous meal is fully digested, or irregular meal timings. •Manasika Hetu (Mental Factors): High stress, anxiety, or inadequate sleep (Anidra). Direct psychological stress instantly triggers Pitta secretion in the Annavaha Srotas. •Healthy but Pitta-Aggravating Foods: Overuse of tomatoes, citrus fruits, fermented foods (like curd or idli), excessive tea/coffee, or cooking with too much ginger, garlic, and mustard oil. 2. Kamdudha Ras: The Rationale & Dosage Kamdudha Ras acts as a potent Pitta Shamaka and Daha-Prashamana (burning-sensation reliever) because it is packed with cooling, alkaline Sheeta Virya and Calcium-rich classical ingredients (like Praval Pishti, Mukta Pishti, Shankha Bhasma, and Varatika Bhasma). It neutralizes the excess sour acid and soothes the inflamed mucosal lining. Clinical Protocol: ••Dosage: 1 to 2 tablets (125 mg to 250 mg) twice a day. ••Best Time (Anupana): Consume it 30 minutes before meals (on an empty stomach) to create a protective, cooling shield in the stomach. ••Anupana (Vehicle): •Take it with fresh, cool water, organic cow’s ghee, or 1 teaspoon of Mishri (rock sugar) dissolved in water. Ghee acts as an excellent Pitta-Vata pacifier and protects the gastric mucosa. 3. Synergistic Herbs to Enhance Recovery Since you experience acid coming up to the mouth (regurgitation), the Gati (movement) of your Vata and Pitta is upward (Urdhvaga). To redirect it downward (Anulomana), consider adding: ••Avipattikar Churna: 3 to 5 grams at bedtime with lukewarm water. It acts as a mild Virechana (purgative) to completely clear excess Pitta from the body through the lower GI tract. ••Shatavari Churna or Yashtimadhu (Licorice) Churna: 2 grams twice a day mixed with a little milk or warm water. This heals any underlying mucosal erosion or mild reflux esophagitis. 4. Crucial Lifestyle Modifications (Vihara) ••Don’t Drink Water Immediately After Meals: It dilutes the Jatharagni (digestive fire), causing improper digestion and subsequent acid fermentation. ••Left-Side Sleeping: Always sleep on your left side (Vamanakukshi). Mathematically and anatomically, this keeps the junction between your stomach and esophagus above the level of gastric acid, preventing nighttime regurgitation. ••Sitala Pranayama: Practice cooling breathing exercises for 5–10 minutes daily to calm the nervous system and lower systemic heat.
