How to treat ongoing digestive problems and anxiety in a 40-year-old with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome? - #56581
I am a 40-year-old Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) patient. I lost my vision at the age of 6 as a result of SJS. For approximately the last 10 years, I have been experiencing ongoing digestive problems. The main symptoms are upper abdominal bloating, acidity, and a feeling of fullness. Mild physical activity often aggravates these symptoms and can sometimes trigger sensations similar to a panic attack, including a racing heart and discomfort. These issues have come and gone over the years. There have been periods when I felt relatively normal, but the symptoms have generally worsened since I had COVID-19 in 2022. In June 2022, I consulted a cardiologist and underwent an echocardiogram (ECHO). The doctor said that there were no significant structural or other cardiac issues, but that my heart rate was slightly elevated. He advised lifestyle measures such as yoga, meditation, and stress reduction. About a year ago, another doctor performed an ECG and noted that my heart rate was elevated, often above 100 bpm. He prescribed a low dose of Metoprolol XR (12.5 mg daily). Personally, I do not feel that my resting heart rate is consistently that high, but during clinic visits my pulse is often recorded at 120 bpm or higher using a pulse oximeter. My digestive symptoms remain significant, with persistent bloating and acidity. The severity fluctuates, but the symptoms are present most of the time. I have not been able to identify any specific food triggers. I eat a normal diet and have not noticed a clear relationship between particular foods and my symptoms. Investigations performed so far include: * H. pylori blood test: Negative * Hydrogen breath test: Negative Other symptoms include: * Frequent headaches * General body stiffness * Fatigue and low energy and mood * Anxiety * Getting startled easily; when startled, my stomach and chest suddenly tighten and then gradually relax My personal impression is that the symptoms resemble what Ayurveda describes as a Vata imbalance, although I am looking for a medical explanation and possible diagnosis. Location: kerala.
