Triphala is traditionally known to help with constipation by supporting bowel regularity, so it’s unusual that it has a constipative effect for you. Various factors could cause this. Let’s break it down:

The form of triphala you’re taking may not be right for you. Capsules sometimes don’t dissolve easily or their content doesn’t distribute well through your digestive system. Consider consulting with a practitioner about switching to triphala churna (powder) if possible. You can mix 1-2 tsp of the powder in a glass of warm water, consuming it before bed, (but it might be beneficial to start with smaller doses and adjust as needed).

Your digestion, or agni, might be weak or imbalanced. It’s important to balance your digestive fire. Incorporate warming spices like ginger, turmeric and cumin in your meals. Avoid cold and heavy-to-digest foods that could further weaken digestion, such as dairy and fried foods.

Align your meal timings regularly. Eating meals at consistent times helps establish a routine and can improve digestive efficiency. Focus on having the main meal around midday, when your agni is strongest.,

Stay active. Gentle exercise, like yoga or walking, aids digestion and encourages bowel movement. Naluka Asana, especially, is great for promoting digestion.

If you don’t see improvement, as constiaption can lead to complications over time, it may warrant further investigation. Get in touch with a healthcare provider or an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized guidance. Remember, if any discomfort becomes severe or if symptoms persist, seeking urgent medical care is essential.
