how to make kajal at home for baby - #25935

Audrey

I am really looking for some advice on how to make kajal at home for baby. My little one’s eyes are sooo sensitive, and I want to try something natural instead of buyin those store products that might have chemicals. I remember my grandmother making kajal using some special techniques, like frying ghee with a wick or something?! But, honestly, I don't know how to make kajal at home for baby properly. I've read a few recipes online, like using almond oil and then putting it in a container, but I get worried if it’s safe or if it's gonna cause irritation. Has anyone done this? I’m a bit scared about getting the right consistency too, you know? Like, should it be thick or…? Also, I’ve heard there's a difference in how to make kajal at home for baby depending on their age. My baby is just over a year, does that change the way I should approach this? Any tips would be super helpful, thanks!

Making kajal at home for a baby can indeed be a thoughtful choice, using natural, chemical-free ingredients. Traditional methods provide guidance, especially for sensitive eyes. For a baby over a year, safety is paramount, so it’s essential to focus on clean ingredients and a gentle application.

One common method involves using ghee (clarified butter) which is quite safe and gentle. Here’s a step-by-step guide you can follow:

First, take a small, clean metal plate and place it securely over a stable support, like a small stand or two bricks, to allow air circulation beneath. Then, take a small lamp (diya) and fill it with fresh homemade ghee. Use a cotton wick, soak it in ghee, and light it. The flame should be steady, not too large.

Position the plate over the flame—about four to six inches above. The soot that gathers on the bottom of the plate will be the kajal. Let the flame burn till you get enough soot. Once gathered, lightly scrape off the soot with a clean, dry spoon into a sterile container. Now, to make it smooth, add few drops of ghee or almond oil, mixing it into a paste. Aim for a smooth, creamy consistncy that’s easy to apply but not too liquidy.

For a baby, applying kajal isn’t necessary for any health benefit, but if you’re inclined, ensure that it’s done in a minimal and cautious way. Only apply a very thin line on the outer waterline or just above it. It’s vital to ensure that the area and hands are clean during application to prevent any infection.

You mentioned varying methods depending on age - for a one-year-old, always apply externally rather than in the eyes, and observe closely for any signs of irritation. If swelling, redness, or excessive tearing occurs, discontinue use immediately. Safety and cleanliness is key here, so sterlize all tools and handle carefully. And remember, it’s never absolutly necessary, so less is more in this case.
