Shadbindu oil have traditionally been used in Ayurveda as a nasal application, known as “nasya,” for a variety of benefits, including enhancing hair health by balancing the doshas, particularly Vata and Kapha. It seems your earlier doctor might have suggested it for topical scalp application which, while not its classical use, may have worked for you then due to its potent herbal properties.
For addressing hair loss through proper Ayurvedic methods, it’s crucial to consider your entire constitutional health (prakriti) and any imbalances (vikruti). Hair loss may be related to an aggravated Pitta dosha or even Vata.
Regarding Shadbindu oil, if it worked for you topically before, it’s possible to continue using it in the same way while being mindful to monitor any reactions. Apply a few drops onto your scalp, focusing on areas with hair thinning. Massage gently to enhance circulation. Preferably do this at night and wash off in the morning. However, if you wish to use it strictly as intended in Ayurveda, try using it as nasal drops - 2 drops in each nostril in the morning. This can help balance doshas internally which may contribute to improved hair health over time.
In addition, consider other Ayurvedic recommendations: Your diet should pacify excess Pitta, avoid spicy, fermented or overly sour foods. Include cooling foods like cucumber, and implement regular scalp massages with oils like bhringraj or amla which are classically recommended for hair growth.
For severe hair fall that continues or worsens, it could be beneficial to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to get a personalized treatment plan considering modern lifestyle factors impacting your health.
