To gain healthy weight and support bone density, the diet should be nourishing. • Milk and Ghee: Milk is considered a natural growth promoter. Consuming a glass of cow’s milk(warm) with a teaspoon of Ghee or Ashwagandha powder at night helps nourish the Majja (bone marrow) and Asthi (bone) tissues. • Protein and Amino Acids: Include soaked almonds, walnuts, black grams, and mung beans. These provide the nourishment for muscle growth. • Natural Sweeteners: Foods like dates, figs, and jaggery are preferable to refined sugar as they provide minerals like iron and calcium. • Shatavari and Ashwagandha: These are classic Rasayana (rejuvenating) herbs. Ashwagandha promotes growth hormones and bone strength, while Shatavari helps in healthy weight gain and muscle mass development. Lifestyle & Movement : Height is significantly influenced by the health of the spine and the stimulation of growth plates. • Tadasana (Mountain Pose): This is the gold standard for height. Stretching the entire body upwards helps decompress the spine. • Surya Namaskar: A sequence of 12 poses that balances the endocrine system and improves blood circulation to the growing ends of the bones. • Adequate Sleep: Growth hormone is primarily secreted during deep sleep. A 15-year-old should aim for 8–9 hours of undisturbed sleep, ideally starting by 10:00 PM. • Abhyanga (Self-Massage): Weekly massage with warm Bala Oil or Dhanwantharam Oil improves circulation and strengthens the skeletal framework. Digestion and Absorption Even the best food won’t help if the body isn’t absorbing it. • Ensure the “Agni” (metablic fire) is balanced. If there is frequent bloating or lack of appetite, herbs like Trikatu (Ginger, Black Pepper, Long Pepper) or Chitrakadi Vati can be used before meals to spark digestion. • Avoid “Vata-increasing” habits like excessive caffeine, carbonated drinks, or skipping meals, as these can lead to tissue depletion (Dhatu Kshaya).
