can we apply multani mitti on face daily - #24863

James

I am really hoping for some advice here. Lately, I've been struggling with my skin. I have oily skin that just won't calm down. I read somewhere that multani mitti is awesome for controlling oil and cleansing, and I started using it a few times a week. But then, I got super curious. Can we apply multani mitti on face daily without causing any harm? Like, if it's great at absorbing oil and dirt, wouldn't it be even better to use it every day? But I’m also worried—I've heard some people say overusing it can dry out the skin or even lead to irritation. Ugh, it’s so confusing! I already have some redness here and there, and I don't want to make it worse. My friend told me she uses multani mitti daily and her skin looks great, but she might just have a diff skin type than mine, ya know? I really wanna get my glow back without risking more breakouts. Help! Any thoughts on daily use or should I stick to a few times a week?

Doctors' responses

HI JAMES, Multani mitti helps absorb oil and cleanse skin, but daily use can over-dry it. It is best to apply 2–3 times a week, depending on your skin type. For dry or sensitive skin, limit to once a week. ALSO DEHYDRATE YOURSELF PROPERLY !

Using multani mitti, also known as Fuller’s Earth, can be quite beneficial for oily skin due to its ability to absorb excess oil and cleanse. However, applying it to your face daily may not always be the best approach, especially considering you already have some redness.

Multani mitti can indeed draw out oil and impurities, but using it every day might strip the natural oils from your skin too aggressively. This could lead to over-drying and potentially trigger more oil production as your skin attempts to balance itself. Overuse might also aggravate the redness or cause other forms of irritation, particularly if your skin is sensitive.

A few times a week is typically a preferred and safer regimen. This gives your skin a break between applications, allowing it to balance its natural oils while still benefiting from the cleansing properties of multani mitti. Depending on your individual skin type – and oiliness level – you might want to use it about 2 to 3 times a week. Always observe how your skin responds and adjust accordingly.

When you apply the multani mitti, consider mixing it with some cooling agents like rose water if your skin tends towards irritation or redness. This mix can soothe the skin while offering the detoxifying benefits. Keep the paste on your face for about 10-15 minutes, and make sure to rinse off with lukewarm water to avoid shocking the skin.

If dryness or further irritation occurs, then follow up with a non-comedogenic moisturizer to ensure your skin remains hydrated. Balancing your skin’s needs requires some experimentation; just be cautious with the frequency until you find what best suits your unique complexion.

If breakouts persist or your skin issues don’t improve, think about consulting with a dermatologist or a skincare professional who can offer further guidance on managing oily skin. Each person’s skin can react differently, so it’s important to find the rhythm that works for you.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
