which indigo powder is best - #25718

Mia

I am really struggling with my hair. For a long time, I've been wanting to switch to natural products and I thought indigo powder was the way to go for that nice dark color without all those chemicals. But here's the thing—I'm totally confused about which indigo powder is best! I've heard there's a BIG difference in quality. I tried a brand from a local store last month, and honestly, it made my hair feel so rough and dry. Ugh! I thought maybe I missed something in my application, but then I saw another brand online that got great reviews, but I dunno if I can trust those reviews or if they're just hype. Plus, friends recommended a few but said some have additives or fillers, which I wanna avoid. I mean, how do I know which indigo powder is best for good results? Any tips on how to choose and what I should look out for? Thanks, guys!

When selecting an indigo powder that's truly beneficial for your hair, quality indeed makes a big diffference. First, look for a product that is 100% pure indigo, free from additives, fillers, or synthetic dyes. These can sneak in, so closely examine the ingredients list. Pure indigo powder should be finely ground and vibrant in color—leaning more towards greenish hue, not deep blue. Incorporating the principles of Ayurveda, it's important to align the product with your body's needs. The natural qualities of indigo are cooling, and in Ayurveda, the cooling nature of indigo makes it particularly beneficial for balancing the Pitta dosha, which is known to govern hair health. When choosing a brand, sourcing is essential. Ensure the brand ethically sources its indigo from sustainable farms. Organic certification adds another layer of assurance regarding its purity, ensuring no harsh chemicals were used in the cultivation process. Good brands will often indicate lab testing for purity on their packaging or website. For application, make sure you hydrate your hair deeply; you mentioned roughness and dryness. Try mixing the indigo powder with a hydrating agent, like aloe vera gel or a small amount of warm coconut oil, which is also tridosha balancing, to provide moisture and prevent the rough texture. After applying indigo paste to your hair, cover it with a shower cap to retain moisture—and avoid combing until everything's processed—usually, around 1.5 to 2 hours works well. For maintaining the richness of color while preventing dryness, consider an Ayurvedic hair routine. Oil massage with bhringraj oil can be deeply nourishing, revitalizing your hair and promoting natural shine, especially if you have Vata imbalance, often linked to dry, brittle hair. Remember, what works for your friend may not work for you, so some experimenting might be needed. But focusing on natural, ethical products is a step in the right direction.
