why hair fall in monsoon - #36738

Aaliyah

I am really stressed out about something that's been happening during this monsoon season. My hair has been falling out way more than usual, like, clumps are coming out when I wash or even just run my fingers through it. I don’t remember it being this bad before! I’ve tried changing up my shampoo and using some oils but nothing seems to be helping. I heard that the weather could be a factor, and I’m wondering, why hair fall in monsoon is such a big issue for some people? Some friends say it could be related to humidity or something about the water we’re using. I’ve even noticed my scalp feels kinda oily and maybe itchy? Ugh, it’s like a double whammy! On top of that, I’ve been kinda stressed with work and all. Is it possible the stress is making my hair worse during this time too? I thought monsoon was supposed to be refreshing, not make my hair a mess! I’m really worried about these hair changes. Any advice or insights into why hair fall in monsoon happens and what I can do to manage it would be awesome!

Monsoon is a time of beautiful rains but it also brings about certain challenges to our hair health. Your concerns about increased hair fall in this season are indeed common, and have several reasons rooted in environmental and lifestyle factors. Let’s dive into why monsoon can trigger such hair issues and explore some Ayurvedic recommendations that can help alleviate the situation.

1. Humidity and Hair Fall: High levels of humidity during monsoon can make the hair moist, leading to weakened hair roots. The excess moisture in the air causes the scalp to become oily and attract dirt, which can clog your hair follicles ultimately resulting in hair fall. The itchiness you’re experiencing could be due to this excessive oil and buildup.

2. Pitta Aggravation: In Ayurveda, monsoon is associated with the Pitta dosha, which governs heat and metabolism in the body. The damp and cool monsoon environment may imbalance Pitta in some individuals. This, combined with stress, can disrupt the healthy growth cycle of hair.

3. Stress: Stress is known to indirectly affect our hair health by causing hormonal imbalances which then exacerbate Pitta imbalances.

4. Water Quality: Water during monsoon can contain impurities that negatively affect hair texture and strength. While you may not have control over water quality, minimize its impact by wrapping your hair in a towel swiftly after a wash.

Here are some actionable steps you can take:

- Hair Nourishment: Massage your scalp with Ayurvedic oils like Brahmi, Bhringraj, or coconut. Do this once or twice a week. It strengthens the hair roots and reduces hair fall. Leave it for at least 30 minutes before washing.

- Herbal Rinse: Make a natural hair rinse using Neem leaves or dried Amla. Boil them in water and once cooled, use this as your final rinse after shampooing. These help cleanse and strengthen the scalp.

- Diet and Herbs: Consume a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and proteins. Including foods like mung beans, spinach, and almonds supports hair health. Incorporate herbs like Ashwagandha to manage stress; Brahmi could also improve Pitta balance.

- Lifestyle Modifications: Practice stress-reducing activities such as Pranayama (breathing exercises) or meditation. These can soothe your mind and have a beneficial influence on your hair health.

Remember, consistent implementation of these practices is key to seeing results. However, if the problem persists or worsens, it’s essential to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying conditions.

Monsoon hair fall can indeed become more pronounced due to several factors interplay with each other. This season often brings increased humidity, which can affect the scalp and hair health. Excess moisture in the air often leads to an oily and sticky scalp, creating an environment for fungal infections or dandruff, both of which can weaken the hair roots and heighten hair fall. The excessive washing to fight stickiness might also strip natural oils, further triggering hair issues.

During monsoon, vata and pitta doshas may become aggravated due to climatic conditions. The imbalance manifests as weakened hair and excess shedding. Stress is certainly an aggravator here; it can disturb your Tridosha (vata-pitta-kapha) balance leading to more hair loss and impacting your agni or inner metabolic fire, affecting hair growth.

Consider these steps: balance your doshas and support your hair health with a gentle scalp massage using amla, brahmi, or bringaraj oil. This can strengthen the roots, stimulate circulation, and calm any dosha imbalance. Follow with a mild Ayurvedic shampoo that matches your hair’s prakriti (constitution). Incorporate herbs like neem or methi to deter infections.

Diet is crucial. Include warming foods, like ginger or cumin, to keep your agni strong. Also, focus on nourishing your asthi dhatu (bone tissue related to hair health) with calcium-rich foods like sesame seeds. Regularly sipping warm water can assist in pacifying aggravated vata.

Avoid heat styling to prevent damage. Monitor stress levels, and practice relaxation through yoga or pranayams to balance your mind-body system. If conditions don’t improve or symptoms like itchiness persist, consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner would clarify the underlying cause further.
