why my hairs are falling too much - #36983

Skylar

I am really freaking out because my hairs are falling too much, like every time I wash my hair or even just brush it, I see clumps of hair on the floor. I never had this problem until a few months ago when I went through a really stressful time at work. Like, my life felt like a rollercoaster, and I think that’s when I first noticed it. I thought it might just be seasonal or something, but it just keeps getting worse! I tried changing my shampoo and using some natural oils, even coconut oil, but why my hairs are falling too much? Is it possible this could be more than just stress? I went to a doctor and they said nothing was wrong with my thyroid or anything, which was a relief but also confusing. I am trying to figure out a more holistic approach instead of just relying on products that don’t seem to help. I heard a bit about Ayurveda and was curious if maybe there are specific herbs or diets that could support hair health? Like, what’s the deal with this? Any advice on why my hairs are falling too much or what I can do to fix it would be amazing!

Doctors' responses

In Ayurveda, excessive hair fall can be linked to an imbalance in the body’s doshas, particularly Pitta dosha. Pitta is responsible for metabolism and transformation processes in the body, and an aggravated Pitta can affect hair health. Stress, as you’ve experienced, could amplify this imbalance leading to issues like hair loss.

First, to address hair fall, it might be essential to incorporate Pitta-pacifying diets and lifestyle changes. Begin by avoiding excessive consumption of foods that are spicy, salty, or sour as they can aggravate Pitta. Eating cooling foods like cucumbers, melons, coriander, and astringent tastes such as green pomegranate and green gram can be beneficial. Encouragingly, drinking lots of water and herbal teas, like chamomile or mint, can help in soothing the Pitta dosha.

Abhyanga, the practice of oil massage, can be especially nourishing for hair health. Use coconut oil or Brahmi oil, known for their cooling and calming properties. Regular scalp massages stimulate blood flow, reduce stress, and enhance hair health. Simply apply warm oil to your scalp, gently massaging it in circular motions, and letting it sit for about 30 minutes before rinsing off. Try doing this 2 to 3 times weekly.

Incorporate Ayurvedic herbs like Amla (Indian gooseberry) and Bhringraj, as they’ve been long praised for their roles in promoting hair growth and strengthening hair follicles. You might consider drinking Amla juice daily or taking it in powdered form. Bhringraj oil can also be applied directly to the scalp.

Yoga and meditation can be helpful by reducing stress levels and promoting overall wellbeing. Practicing specific poses such as Balayam (nail rubbing) may naturally stimulate hair growth by promoting balance.

Interestingly, ensure your diet is rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals vital for hair health. Include whole grains, fresh vegetables, and nuts. Trifala supplements, known for detoxifying effects and promoting digestion, can also ensure proper nutrient absorption.

Always remember, Ayurveda works by bringing the body back to a state of balance and may take time. If the hair loss persists or worsens, consider consulting an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized guidance. Prioritize holistic measures with patience, as the body gradually aligns towards optimal health.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
